Is impetuousness a positive or negative force?
Hello friends, today I am going to talk about the impetuous word that comes from the late Latin, impetuosus and at the same time this is derived from the Latin impetus or impetus and osus, bear, this is an adjective that means that it moves violently or quickly, or that it is fiery, alive, vehement.
We can say that something impetuous is something that acts with great force, without thinking about it, it acts instinctively, without taking into account the consequences or benefits that this action will bring.
It can also refer to something that moves very fast or with great force, as we see it represented in the image that heads this publication, which is the flow of a river and it looks like it has many currents, like very impetuous and moving without any direction, unable to predict where it is going. So this is the representation of something impetuous. Another example of someone impetuous is a professional e-sports player who is in a game and when they make a move that he thinks is not fair, he leaves that game and makes all his teammates look bad, without thinking that You are leaving the team incomplete, you are causing great damage by making a rash decision and being someone who is impulsive.
But today I come to talk to you about a question that I have been asking myself in relation to this word, is being impetuous a positive force or a negative force?
First I am going to briefly analyze the part that seems harmful or negative to me.
If you are an impetuous person, you are probably going to make the wrong decisions, because you are acting impulsively, you are not going to evaluate the benefits and cons of a situation, you are not analyzing all the options and reason is clouded, and you cannot be objectively neutral to evaluate all the possibilities, we do not have an overview of the consequences that may come from this action. This means that it can lead us to very risky situations, which can endanger our lives or even the lives of other people, as we see in the example of the professional player who is leaving the game, he is not putting the lives of others at risk. the other people, but he is putting at risk everything that has to do with the team and the championship he is playing at that moment, just by being impetuous, and at the same time he is creating a conflict with the other players. He is damaging the relationship he has with those other people, with those other players, that's why you always have to evaluate these things. This is the negative side that I see of being impetuous.
Now speaking of the positive side, being a person who acts impulsively obviously moves and motivates us to be more creative, new ideas come to us, we can consider new solutions and it moves us to take risks. It is important because this helps us get out of our comfort zone, which we are used to doing all the time and allows us to free ourselves. This is also a synonym of freedom, of being spontaneous, we can feel more alive, with more energy or liberated, when we act in this way. This is the positive side of being impetuous.
As with all things in life you have to be rational.
I believe that being impetuous has a tendency to be something more positive, a force more beneficial than harmful and of course we always have to do things in moderation. I believe that we must be rational, have an organized list of our goals, what we want, and above all, dedicate a few minutes of reflection or meditation daily before making a valuable decision.
We have to be careful about being impetuous because this is a double-edged sword.
This is what I think about it.
