Sick in the heart
James! Where in God's name have you been man? Did you bump your head on the wall or something or did you have a memory lapse?
James couldn't understand why his best friend Paula was raining abuses on him and he just stood there looking all dump and stupid, at least that's how the onlookers saw him at that moment.
He tried so hard to let Something out of his mouth but nothing came out. His words seemed to have packed their bags and booked an early flight out of the country leaving him behind. Not knowing how to express himself, he just stood there and even him was shocked when he started to feel a certain liquid pour down his face and then he realized that he was crying.
For the first time in his life, he wasn't ashamed of crying because he didn't know how else he would deal with the emotions that were stuck in his chest and rising with every second, looking for a way out.
He had been a faithful man, a good friend, even a better human but none of that was good enough, else this wouldn't have happened.
How was he supposed to go on, he thought to himself. How was he supposed to make meaning of his life and let go of all the years and time and hours he had invested. He had been holding this treasure for a long time, through the hills and valleys and the bad times he held on. He just couldn't believe what was happening and he concluded that he must be dreaming.
The loud voice of Paula brought James back to reality and it was there that it hit him that all this was happening for real.
James, called Paula. What is wrong? Paula was becoming impatient and hesitant to find out what was going on but devastated James still could not find his words.
Paula who had had enough started to call on passers by for help because James was just static and not talking. The only thing that could tell anybody that he was alive was his chest that was heaving up and down rapidly and the tears pouring down his face.
A little crowd had gathered and Paula started to explain that James was to have lunch with his girlfriend Liv before coming to see a football game with her. She explained that she had waited for James all through the game and he was no show. She tried calling him and left series of voice mail which he didn't reply. She later mentioned that she had to trace him via his cell, thankfully his location was on and that was how she had found him over an hour ago in the state he was but now worse.
A few minutes later the police were on ground and they started to clear the crowd which by now had gotten bigger due to Paula's frantic behavior of course.
Two hours had already past and James was still speechless. The policemen had taken him and Paula to the nearest hospital to get him checked. If only they knew that he wasn't sick in his body but in his heart.
