Get Rid of Distractions
Doing something that gives you pleasure but takes away too much of your time at the same time is something I consider unhealthy. Oftentimes, there are people who forget to prioritize things and end up being swallowed by the temptation brought about by things that keep them busy yet, on the other hand, do not give them benefits. So if you are on the verge of something whether to cut the connection towards something addictive, this discussion may help you.
I am the type of person who gets distracted by something that I used to do. One of which is playing mobile games. For some reasons, I should not say it, but to be honest, I even cried before when my account in Clash of Clans got erased. I did not back it up with my Google Play Games account, and when its data was deleted, I really spent a lot of sleepless nights wondering how I could recover it. It's a good thing I managed to get over it and move on from it.
Then here comes Mobile Legends, haha. I was still in junior high school when it first became a trend. Due to my background, I really fought the urge to download it before. Good thing, my cellphone back then couldn't support the game. Somehow, I forgot about the game.
But you know what, when I got a better phone and tried it once, I can say I was really entertained by it. There are times I play a lot of matches in a day, but I make sure that it doesn't affect my other duties and responsibilities as a student and as a family member. Recently, I noticed that I can't stop playing magic chess in the said game, and since I don't want it to interfere with other things I should do, I decided to finally uninstall it. This is the best way I know that can help me with this problem. I know it sounds funny, but I do not want it to get worse, and I know when to stop doing something, especially when it takes more time than it should be.
But here's what I can say to avoid some distractions.
Stay away from your phone if there's something not important to do with it.
As long as there is nothing important to do with your phone, set it aside and do something more productive instead. As per observation, using mobile phones is one of the most common reasons some people get easily distracted, especially if there are tempting games or apps installed on them.
Sometimes, I need to reiterate this one to myself as well, because there are times I should apply it, but I forget to do so.
Remind yourself of your goals.
I believe that there is less chance of being distracted by your surroundings when you are in touch with your primary motive for working. For example, you may be struggling to cope with a hectic work schedule this week. It's crucial to link your current situation to your long-term objectives.
This is because the more that you remind yourself about your goals, the more that you focus on them, and the less that you get distracted by other things.
You may also need to declutter.
Having an excessive number of items on your table or on your wall might be distracting at times as well. So, in this specific situation, you may need to declutter or eliminate certain items that are superfluous or simply unnecessary. Also, it is preferable to make things as simple as possible.
To summarize it all, do not waste time second-guessing. If you're a student, put your academics first and foremost. There's no need to look elsewhere. You must look forward and move forward. All the items or activities that make your mind at ease should be pursued. Listen to some of your favorite songs to calm your mind and do not forget to take a break after reading any sort of book or doing something. There are moments when you just need to be by yourself, pondering and making a decision. While it is not bad to install some games on your phone, make sure that it will not hinder you from accomplishing your goals. Like I said, if you can't control yourself, better uninstall it. Lastly, keep it simple.
