We don't think too much about water,
that basic element without which
there is no life.
We know that we need to drink it
because our body needs it to
function normally,
we know that we pollute it
excessively and we know that
because of that same pollution we
need to purify it before
consuming it.
However, I'm sure you certainly
didn't know the following facts
about water.
1. There are 1.5 billion cubic
kilometers of water on the
planet Earth. That's 800 trillion
Olympic pools.
2.If the water were evenly distributed throughout the planet Earth, the depth of that water surface would be 3,700 meters.
3. More water is found in the
Earth's atmosphere than in all
the rivers of our planet.
4.All the water on Earth arrived in comets and asteroids.
5.Water has a unique property,
it expands when it freezes,
unlike any other liquid.
This property of water made it
possible to create life.
Under the ice crust of rivers
and lakes during the ice age,
life continued to develop.
6.The amount of water in the human body changes throughout life. The body of the fetus consists of 95 percent water, the body of the newborn 77 percent water, and the body of the adult consists of 60 to 70 percent water. The human brain is made up of 70 percent water, and every cell in the human body is made up of two-thirds water
7. A man can survive a month
without food, but only a week
without water.
8.Hot water freezes faster than cold water. This effect is called the Mpemba effect, and to date chemists have not offered an exact explanation for why this is so. In 2012, the British Royal Society of Chemistry held a competition in search of works that would offer a possible explanation for the Mpemba effect. Among more than 22,000 applications, the work of Nikola Bregović, an assistant at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, won first place. His work was declared victorious by Erasto Mpemba himself.
9. One water flush in the toilet
requires approximately 8 liters
of water, and the same amount of
water is consumed when
brushing teeth.
10. If water drips from a broken
tap every second, as much as 760
liters of water leak out
every year!
I'm sure you didn't know most of these facts about water. Will you keep it better now? How much do we actually think about such small and so important things for us ?!
This is really interesting facts about water
