September

September is the ninth month of the year, the third of four months to have a length of 30 days, and the fourth of five months to have a length of fewer than 31 days.

September starts on the same day of the week as December each year but does not end on the same day of the week as any other month in the year.

September marks the beginning of the Ecclesiastical year in the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the start of the academic year in many countries.

The Month September

The name September comes from the Latin septem, meaning seven, since it was originally the seventh of ten months of the Roman calendar, the calendar of Romulus, which began with March.

The Romans believed that September was looked after by the god of the fire and forge – Vulcan. Thus, they expected fires, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes in this month.

After the calendar reform that added January and February to the year, September became the 9th month but still retained its name.

Zodiac sign. The zodiac sign for September are Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22) and Libra (Sept. 23 onwards)

Birthstone. The birthstone for September is the sapphire. Although the term sapphire usually refers to the blue variety of corundum, it is present in almost every color. Those with red colors are called rubies (Ruby is July's birthstone). It symbolizes intuition, clarity of thought, peacefulness, as well as loyalty and trust.

The sapphire is the second-hardest natural gemstones, with only the diamond being harder.

Birth flowers. There are three birth flowers of the month of September. First is the aster, symbolizing love; then forget-me-not, representing memories and love; and also the morning glory, symbolizing unrequited love.
