Hi, my friends at read.cash. How are you today? It's been more than a week since Im not wrote here because I was infected with the Covid-19 pandemic. So during this week, I spent time resting at home. And now I'm healed and can write again on this platform. Btw, I would like to discuss the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist. I wanted to write this discussion before being exposed to covid-19, but I got the opportunity to write today.

In the past, many have asked me are psychologists and psychiatrists are the same? Then I answered Similarly but not the same, maybe this is what you can understand about the profession of psychologists and psychiatrists. Many think that psychologists and psychiatrists are the same two professions, even though both have very far differences.

Even though they are still within the same scope of work that can be said to be interconnected, the two have crucial differences. Well, you have to understand what are the differences between a psychologist and a psychiatrist, so that later you won't be wrong in asking for services for your health. The following are some of the differences between psychologists and psychiatrists.

Differences in Education Level

The main thing that makes a difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is the level of education, or rather the focus of education taken by each profession. A psychologist is a profession that is obtained by a person after taking a Master of Psychology education, where to be able to enter and study at this Master of Professional Psychology, the main requirement is to have a Bachelor of Psychology education first, and then continue their education to Master of Professional Psychology.

As for Psychiatrists, the level of education or focus of education taken is Psychiatric Specialist Medical education. This means, the profession of a psychiatrist is a doctor, who takes a psychiatric specialist education. As for the Psychiatrist, his academic and professional degrees are dr. (name) Sp.Kj or psychiatric specialist. Of course, before obtaining a degree and profession as a psychiatric specialist, a psychiatrist must take medical education, and also practice as a general practitioner by existing regulations.

Even for psychology, psychology graduates themselves are not immediately able to practice like a psychologist. Even with those who majored in psychology but the field of science. For the field of master of science in psychology usually get an M.Si . degree.

Methods Used

In terms of the methods used, psychologists use various methods of psychological therapies, or what is known as psychotherapy. In conducting treatment or therapy, psychologists rely on social skills, such as in conducting counseling, and also providing interventions in the form of psychotherapy.

Meanwhile, psychiatrists, in addition to relying on counseling, also rely on their competence as a doctor, namely providing pharmacotherapy, or therapy using drugs for patients or clients who come to them.

These two professions have the same roots, and also have many interrelated theories, so people often mistake the difference between psychologists and psychiatrists. Many psychological theories are taken from an understanding of the theory and science of psychiatry, and vice versa. That is why these two professions are similar but not the same. So, that is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist.
