We all want something dependable right? If something or someone is always there for us we can rest easy and never be afraid to be left alone or lacking. Even if we know that nothing in life is permanent we still prefer what's always there (or not there).
This can cause mental health problems. Like seriously, it can cause anxiety and fear of being left out, lost or abandoned. I have observed this happening to me and other people.
Take writing for example. People like to read and follow someone who only write about one specific topic. That's where niches come in. One person writes about travel, only posting about travel stories and nothing more. Others do food articles or diary entries only. And so on.
Those accounts/people get a following and regular readers because we know what to expect to read from him/her. Regularity is appreciated because it means the person seems to be always there when you need to read about that one topic only. As opposed to being a random/anything goes writer, readers will fluctuate because they may or may not like what you write depending on the topic.
If you don't post about just one topic then people cannot expect just one thing from you. This variety in one account may not be appreciated by most people unless the reader also like the same topics being written about.
Personally I don't like doing things over and over again. To some people that seems like the person is not dependable. If you want someone who will be there in the same place even when you get old and grey, I am not always that person. Nobody is like that except those who are happy to stay in one place or do just one thing for the rest of their lives.
There are people who are happy moving around all the time. (It might have something to do with upbringing too.) That can mean regularly changing homes, work, education, business, etc. You name it they've done it. I see nothing wrong with that because as Jose Mari Chan sings in his song, "Life is a constant change."
Boomers are supposedly hating on millennials for always changing jobs. There are a lot of articles online about it.
Times have changed of course. Nobody wants to stay in one job/place/situation forever. There are plenty of opportunities to grow now than before. This doesn't mean we should forget about being loyal to something good though. If we have no sense loyalty to anything/anyone then that's not a good personality trait too imho.
What do you think are the things that should remain constant?
There is a saying that nothing in this world is permanent or certain except death and taxes. Don't forget change too, duh. ππ
Anyway, let me give you two things that I believe should be done all the time.
1 . Preservation and Conservation of Nature/Natural Resources.
I just realized that ancient things and relics have been preserved in many countries, why can't we do the same to all of our natural resources?
Look at the Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge, and even the Easter Island Heads. Heck people even donate to renovate old churches! These are preserved even if they are old. Why can't all of us do the same to things that are alive like the trees and animals?
The population of humans is growing everyday and yet the food source and supply is not being preserved or grown the same way. Why is that?
Why do you think we should always protect and conserve what's in our local environment? Simple. It is what gives us life. It keeps us alive and living life to the fullest.
Everything we have now is thanks to the plants, animals, minerals, etc., on our planet. Do you think we will survive without water? How about air? Oh wait what about food? Well where does all of that come from?
We all like to go and relax near the beach or mountains but what are we doing to help keep them clean and beautiful? Are we doing anything to stop other people from making some plants or animals extinct? Do we even care as long as we enjoy and relax someplace exotic? In the first place we can't enjoy something that's polluted and dirty so why do we throw our garbage in the streets and the rivers?
Nature isn't always safe from us because we abuse it: Overharvesting, (water, air, soil) pollution, etc. Especially big corporations, wow they can really do damage big time because they have all the money and machineries. Tsk tsk.
Once something is overharvested it starts to get less and less until it dwindles and disappears. Pollution also kills the little creatures first and that can go up the food chain which can cause lack of food for everybody. Thus what we thought would be abundant, clean and green or blue all the time can be destroyed and lost forever. This won't stop unless we start changing ourselves and become better people.
Remember, prevention is better than cure, not just for our own health but also to the environment's wellbeing.
2 . Being a good citizen of the world.
We all get angry when someone lies or steals from us. Everybody gets hurt when there is a crime (murder, assassinations, rape, etc.) For some it may not be physical pain, it can be emotional and mental anguish. Those are harder to heal. It can go on until death if the person doesn't know how to let go and move on from it.
When someone hurts us we of course want to retaliate. (Perfect examples are family/clan feuds or gang wars) And that can go on forever until the last descendants decides to break it. Do you think that is a great way to live? Always on the lookout for whoever might exact their revenge on you?
Look at our politics. People keep bickering in person and spewing hateful words online because one side has been hurt and the other does not even want to say sorry or do the right thing to finally end the issue. It has been going on for decades. These things cannot just be set aside and be forgotten until someone does the right thing.
We are all adults here. We know what's right and wrong and we teach them to our kids and young ones. The problem is, the things we do are different from what we teach the children. It is not easy to be a good person all the time but some people just don't care about being respectful/courteous or kind at all. There are those who even belittle individuals for being nice and thus become a bully. Tsk tsk.
Unfortunately people who do wrong refuse to admit it even when caught in the act or when someone testifies or whistleblows against them. Where is good citizenship in these cases?
If everyone is good and have an exemplary behavior don't you think we can finally call Earth our "heaven"?
Actually if everyone becomes good people, caring for the environment won't even be a problem anymore. It would be automatically done by all the people on Earth.
When do you think will we realize that we are all connected? Whatever we do wherever we are can affect someone on another side of the world. We can think we are doing nothing (because it is small or insignificant) but if you add all the small things million and billions or trillions/gazillions of people do on Earth what do you think will happen? Just one person is enough for major things to occur.
The question is, do we want good things to happen to everyone in the world or bad things? Too bad, most people only think of ourselves, even those who aren't even poor.
Do you know that change affects everyone?
There is a saying that "No man is an island." We all know one person cannot do everything alone. If we could then why would we need other people, right? π
If you can do everything then you can live on one planet on your own and not have any problems. Unfortunately we are social creatures. Just like the "lesser animals" humans are mammals BUT we can think for ourselves.
Our minds work better than anything else that we even make machines that can be automated and superior than humans. Hahaha. Humanity thinks it's so clever to make Artificial Intelligence (AI). Some people even dream of sentient AI's. ππ
Sorry to break it to you but those things have no heart or emotions. Those AIs can destroy the entire world if they are programmed to or if even one becomes fully sentient. Even if you cover the machine with organic material to make it look alive, it doesn't have a soul or emotions.
Okay I might be veering off topic here but since I have nothing else to talk about on the first of February I thought I'd share these things running in my mind.
Lucky are those who are ignorant of what's happening in the world huh? People who are unaware can easily not care whatever happens to other people or the world. You and I can think we will not be affected by what someone does. And that my dear reader is where we are wrong.
Change is inevitable and those of us who cannot adjust will keep on hating and being hated on. It's what makes each of us damaged and whole too.
Anyway, the answer is love. And world peace.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. π

Even if we do not accept change, change cannot stop because everything changes over time. Another name for change is success. We humans are just like a machine that gets old with time. Your thoughts are good. I didn't know the world when I wasn't on social media
