Living in insecurities
Hi beautiful souls. It feels good to be back here after a long period. I hope you're doing well.Well, I can't say the same for myself since I have been ruminating on one of the challenges occurring in this country and it has been a heavy burden on my heart.
The rate at which my country is becoming insecure is very alarming.it's saddening whenever I remember I live in a country where citizens' security is taken with levity. People are robbed of their lives and properties right in a so-called 'secured country'.
In a country where people strive all day and night to survive and make ends meet, they get robbed of the little they gather at the end of the day. Many get kidnapped and would be asked to pay a huge ransom in exchange for their lives. Some are even killed for their failure to meet the demands of the kidnappers. What a country!
A friend of mine shared an experience of how she got kidnapped last week on her way home from the supermarket. She had been standing by the roadside for an hour waiting for a cab but couldn't get one. In her haste to get home quickly, she boarded a motorcycle even though she has a phobia of it. Along the way, another passenger, a man, joined her on the motorcycle. They continued their journey until the man alighted just some distance from her street. Then, she noticed the rider increase the speed and rode past her street despite her telling him she had gotten to her destination. He paid deaf ears and it was at that moment she realized that she's been kidnapped. She panicked and started shouting for help on a lonely dark road. She felt a bit relieved when the motorcycle came to a stop abruptly, she suddenly felt dizzy and passed out.
When she regained consciousness, she was by the bush on a roadside. All the items she bought from the supermarket have been stolen including her bag which contains some money and her debit card. She started waving to the oncoming cars for help. Luckily, a car stopped and when she explained her situation, the driver helped her home. The ugly experience traumatized her for some days before she became stable.
Many people have experienced and been a victim of this ugly situation. Some are lucky to live to tell the story while some are not; they were murdered after being robbed of their money and properties.
People's right to freedom movement has been tampered with. The fear to visit or go on trips has overwhelmed people due to the insecurities in the country; the fear of getting kidnapped or killed by bandits on the road. Some even stay in their houses yet they still get robbed and killed, even in daylight.
It's so heartbreaking thinking about all these incidents and no solution has been provided. Innocent and helpless citizens are killed every day and everyone has been hiding inside their 'shells' with the thought that it's safe. I pray solutions are provided soonest for us to regain our lost rights and freedoms.
