"Why it is Better to live in the City Sometimes."
Lead image edited using canva - Source
We know that there are several advantages and disadvantages to living in the City rather than in the countryside. Top on this is you have access to everything without traveling too far. No food for a meal? Fast food chains are usually minutes away, and there are even many canteens or what we could "turo-turo" in our dialect. You will not be deprived of what you want if you have a budget and can afford it. Thus above all of these, what I like in the City is "no one cares."
Perhaps you are wondering why I love it; let me explain.
If you live in the countryside, I know you are aware of the existence of " HUMAN CCTV." Those who seemed not busy aside from minding their neighbor's business. Then when they noticed that their neighbors started doing better, they became anxious and started thinking about how to drag them down again. Crab mentality!
Why am I suddenly talking about this? I just got fed up with our neighbor the last time I was on vacation. As I have mentioned in my previous articles, our life was so hard back then. My parents don't have a stable source of income, and I have seven siblings. We are always scarce with everything, even basic needs. I think that was one of the reasons I was so thin back then: I had nothing to eat most of the time. Our house was not even decent to the point that we constantly got mocked by our beloved neighbors, who, most of them, were distant relatives. I will never forget those hurtful words they threw at us, especially for calling my Mother too ambitious just because she sent us to school no matter how hard it was.
Thus, just like an old saying, the world is round and keeps on revolving. You might be on top by now, yet who knows, the next time you wake up, you are now at the BOTTOM!
As time passed and we finished our studies, we got a decent jobs. Life has improved, and we always try to give our best to our parents. Not that we are now RICH, safe to say we could now afford to put a decent meal on our table and got a good HOME!
That is when neighbors again started to do some stup!d sh!ts.
Last month, my Mother informed us that the company providing water in our province started to start a project in our place. (We are still using deep well). Since we are far from the starting point, we already expect a budget for it. However, we didn't expect that the neighbor who happened to be my Father's cousin, would not allow us to pass by on her land. I mean the hose from the primary water source going at our house. Let us call her Aunt San. This bothers me as it won't cause an inconvenience for them as the water hose will be buried in the ground. Plus they are not using that area as their house was built in another place ( literal nakatiwangwang). That left us no choice but to detour, which added another 100meters away. This means we need to buy a 600-meter long water hose, and that already cause around P15,000 or $255.
With that, we cannot pursue our application due to financial issues. We are still saving for it.
Then, last weekend before I went back to Manila, my sister and I dropped by in home appliances in our province. That was because my Mom asked me when I gona buy a sala set for our house. Good thing my sister agreed to share some pennies for it. What we purchased was not expensive, just a simple L-type set.
That is my Father wearing a pink polo shirt. See how happy he is? Though I am not, as it broke my wallet, lol. (nevermind the mess)
See? There is nothing to be envious of. It was not an expensive sofa.
Yet, just an hour after it was delivered to our house, my sister informed me that Aunt San had put a fence on her property where vehicle going to our house passed by! OMG! I felt my blood go up into my head!
Yes, I know they OWNED it but can't they first inform us? Manner ba manners.! Besides, that was the road everyone was passing by since the day I learned how to walk. What was left was just a tiny trail which is muddy, and only a motorcycle could pass.
I would understand if they will be using it but NO! A friend even overheard them laughing. They intended to do that for us.
This scenario makes me believe that "BLOOD is no longer thicker than WATER". As I have mentioned earlier, she is my Father's cousin. I think they never treated us because if they did , her son would not harass me. Though it happened during my teenage years, I will never forget that day! If you happened to read my blog before; Don't be naïve, don't trust easily. I am Leticia.
I was in a rage and almost sold the BCH I am holding so that we could pursue our water application to show off and trigger them. Good thing I was still in my senses. I was able to control my emotions, so I just told my sister's let them. Besides, it's their reputation will be tainted once the whole Barangay knows what they did. It won't take 24 hours.
That is what I meant, why I sometimes better to live in the City. The neighbor doesn't care as long as it won't disturb them.
That FAMILY Ties sometimes no longer exist in the countryside, but the "envious" is. Gone are the days when you felt having a big family in the community. Now? They are just watching your every move and waiting for the perfect timing to attack. They would be happy to see your downfall.
Sorry for the rant again lol, I just saw my cousin's post in Facebook earlier so I remember about it.
