The sun hides under the blanket
The atmosphere is dimmed
From the ground up and from the heavens down
Gravity is defiled by pieces in the air
Swimming in the flow of the clouds' breath
"Gather round" it seems to say
"Gather round it's still day"
Cool, fresh, bone chilling
Gets under the cloth and kisses the skin
A clap and a tear brings the rain down
The clouds begin to cry as the ground is being flogged
The greens are happy because they laugh in the wind
Dancing to the rythm as the rain drums
Faster! Louder! Harder!
Then quiet
The clouds are drained and they move along
Then as the break of dawn, the sun comes
Awakened from it's short nap
"What happened here? The ground bleeds!"
Hot with anger, the sun questions
Giggle, giggle. Whisper, whisper
The greens keep mute
This poem was dated 7/11/2018 when I went camping to Ibadan for the first time and spent four days there and every afternoon it would rain.
