Without warning the rain came in all its might and power with the wind blowing ferociously as if in contest with the electricity that raced across the heavy grey clouds, leaving me astounded and stranded in a little shack with a 'bus stop' sign written on it. Like any other person caught by nature's cruel kindness, I cursed at the unexpected change in weather, but more towards the person who had kept me waiting here.
The driver was over thirty minutes late, the umbrella in my bag was as useless as phone service in this storm. I cursed even more.
I needed a gentleman in shiny armor to rescue a damsel in distress who was being constantly bathed by the villians who sped past in their mobile wickedness. Any one in rusty or even leather armor would be an angel.
When the car finally pulled over, I retired to the back seat soaking wet, too cold to lash out all the curses I had rehearsed in the rain at the driver. I just layed back fuming till my phone rang.
"Hello Jane?"
"Susan? I'm sorry for the delay, can you find a way to get home or rather remain in school?"
"The driver just picked me, we're on our way home."
"What are you saying? The driver is in the hospital right now. He had an accident"
"Wha....?" The line went dead
Slowly I looked at the driver through the rearview mirror and nearly jumped out of my skin. I gripped the seat and dug my nails into it. His eyes were closed like he was asleep but still sitting properly upright.
Then like a sledgehammer to the chest, it hit me. My phone shouldn't be on..........it had switched off before I left school!
