I know we have all heard of the popular saying; beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but do you know what that statement means?
Welcome to my entry for the beauty prompt as part of the daily prompts spearheaded by @JonicaBradley . I got inspired to take part in this prompt after coming across Jane's version (check it out here: We Are All Beautiful, It's The Character That Makes Us Ugly)
This picture was taken on my way to class. My coursemate saw the mushroom and she exclaimed "wow, this mushroom is so beautiful. Kushy let's take pictures of it".
So I got down to business and took several shots of the mushroom at different angles. Some persons also came by and took photos of the mushroom.
That was the first time I have actually taken pictures of nature, and I discovered nature is very beautiful depending on how you look at it. That's the reason why I have chosen photography for the entrepreneurship course I will be taking this semester.
I have seen a lot of mushrooms before but this particular one is very unique; it remained pure despite being surrounded by lots of dirt.
My friend (the mushroom lady π) loved the pictures of the mushroom and she still uses it as her profile picture on WhatsApp. Some other persons won't see anything unique with it but it is beautiful to her and that's all that matters.
Beauty is subjective
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder which means what is pleasing to one person might not be pleasing to the next person, so we can say beauty is subjective.
Yes, beauty is subjective as it all depends on personal view and taste. Humans are different and that difference applies to all aspects of life, including how we see things. Perspective matters a lot when it comes to aesthetic value.
To be beautiful means to be yourself. You donβt need to be accepted by others. you need to accept yourself. - Thich Nhat Hanh
Beauty is not about what others think of you but about how you think of yourself. If you don't accept yourself, why will you expect others to accept you?
Most people live their lives according to the rules and instructions of others. As HappyBoy said in his entry (read more about his amazing entry: Beauty - are you a lab rat?);
Love yourself!. If you don't love who you are, then you will be easily swayed by comments from the public.
Most people are easily swayed by the opinion of the public, and at the end of the day, they get depressed when they can't meet the specification of everyone.
To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. Itβs about knowing and accepting who you are.β - Ellen Degeneres
Happiness is beautiful. Finding comfort in yourself is beautiful. What you project out to other people matters a lot, beauty is not only about physical appearance but also what you have within.
Are you beautiful inside? I have seen a lot of persons that have an attractive face that's considered beautiful, but their character and behavior are far from beautiful.
Do you have a beautiful soul? Have others be touched by the beauty in your heart? It's not all about having a cute face and a killer smile, what do your morals say about you?
There's something I seek more than beauty in a lady, and that's intelligence. The first thing that draws my attention to someone is their attractiveness, but after interacting with them and notice their attitude, I back off.
I remember a crazy post I saw on Twitter last year. A lady tweeted that she is searching for a rich boyfriend. She went on to say she's beautiful, has nice boobs and ass, and any man will be lucky enough to have her.
Indeed she is beautiful, but most people asked her in the comment section; what are you bringing to the table? She replied someone with; "I'm beautiful and very good in bed na, what else will you be looking for?"
I have seen a lot of ladies like her, and while most of them won't tweet their intentions online, they all have the same agenda. They are the most dressed and among the most beautiful, but it's just on the surface. There's nothing upstairs.
Beauty without brain is a huge turn off and I believe intelligence completes the beauty of everyone. I actually attribute beauty to "the more you look, the less you see".
Look at something beautiful for a very long time and you will start noticing flaws, what will make you stay even after noticing such flaws depends on other attributes which complete the beauty.
Everything in life is beautiful
Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is Godβs handwriting - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Do you actually believe God created anything ugly? He is the greatest designer, sculptor, painter, builder, engineer, architect, and all his creations are beautiful.
Like we normally say in Nigeria; you're not ugly, you just don't have money. Most people that are seen as ugly are actually beautiful, but they haven't been refined.
Gold can be mistaken for an ordinary shiny stone when it's dirty and unrefined. Something beautiful can break down if it isn't maintained, but does that mean it can never be beautiful again? Even in its broken state, it still pleases the eye of someone.
No matter how we conceal our flaws, people will always find ways to reveal them. But who looks ugly here? It's not the one with an ugly face, but those who are criticizing other people just because they are more powerful or look better than them. - Jane
Conclusion
Beauty is all around us and we just have to look deeper, instead of just looking at the surface. Don't ever feel you're not beautiful because of the standards someone else has set.
Look yourself in the mirror every morning and remind yourself of your strengths and weaknesses, acknowledge the fact that you're different from everyone else and that makes you unique.
Variety is the spice of life and your uniqueness makes you beautiful.
Enjoy this song by James Blunt and always remember; you're beautiful.
You can also be a part of this prompt by simply following the rules.
