Some blunt truths that you won't like to hear

Howdy folks ๐Ÿค  how are y'all today? I have been in a really good mood today and I guess it's because of what has been happening in the cryptoverse recently. Have you seen what's happening in the BCH market? I have been monitoring the market since last week when the price was around $100 and it kept going up every day. I was always expecting it to fall (as usual) but it keeps going higher! Let me ask again, have you seen what's happening in the market?

As of the time of writing

I didn't want to say anything for some days now because I didn't want to jinx it and I also don't want to raise anybody's hopes up but right now I don't think talking about it is going to affect the price (it never did). If our thoughts had a way of affecting the price of cryptocurrency, then BCH would have been around $20k or even higher right now ๐Ÿ˜†

That's actually the first thing I want to talk about in this article:

Model Source

1. Your thoughts don't matter

If you think about negative things, then bad things will happen and if you think positively, then good things will happen; at least that's what most people say but is this even feasible? I don't think so and I will also say it all depends on probability or chance or luck.

What I mean is that, if we are faced with an event that isn't in our control, your thoughts at that point won't have any effect on the outcome of that event. Things won't just go well because you think positively (calm down, this is not a movie and you're not a Jedi ๐Ÿ˜†). For example, you see someone driving recklessly and it's obvious he is drunk and a small kid is trying to cross the road. There's a chance that the car will hit the child and there's nobody close enough to save the kid.

Ok, let's think positive and hope the car doesn't hit the child but your thoughts in that situation won't do anything, the car won't just suddenly bend to your will because you think about it not hitting the child. The outcome of that event now depends on luck (or probability) and several things can affect that outcome, but sadly your thoughts aren't one of them.

It might just happen that the car will just slightly miss the child and run off the road or it will hit the child and he\she will die in the process or they will only sustain some minor injuries or a lot of injuries or they might end up in a coma, there are just a lot of possibilities and your thoughts won't affect the outcome. I know when I mention; "he/she will die in the process", some of you might have cringed at that thought and will rather not think about it, but not thinking about it doesn't mean it won't happen as well.

And that's how most people think when it comes to death; if you don't think about it, it won't happen, but sadly it doesn't work that way. Whether you think about it or not, if it wants to happen, it will happen. Death doesn't obey any rules set by humans, it doesn't listen to your logic and lines of thoughts, it only responds to the one who created it, so why will you think it won't happen if you don't think about it? It isn't exactly an out-of-mind-out-of-reality kind of situation, it plays by its own rules.

Does this mean you shouldn't think about things?

Source

Of course not, I am not saying you should stop yourself from having thoughts about any situation or event, the point I am trying to pass is that you shouldn't neglect the negative thoughts as well. Most people will rather just be optimistic and think about only the positive outcome of an event, but they forget that life is a mixture of good and bad, good things don't happen all the time, so you also have to consider that when thinking about the outcome of any event

There's always a possibility that something you're working on might just fail (even if it's a very small possibility, it's still there), why then will you only think about the chance of it succeeding but ignore the possibility of it failing? This is usually what brings about frustrations and disappointments most of the time, you have put all your hopes on the task being successful and when it eventually fails, you're taken by surprise because it's something you didn't see coming at all.

In programming, there's something we do where we write an event that will happen if a user does something true, but then we also write something else that will happen if the user does something that is not true (false). Things won't always be true so it's better to make provisions for when things become false, and that's also how to approach a task with a positive and negative mindset.

Source

"If this task is successful, I will do this but if it fails, I will do this instead": this might sound off to some people who will say; "why will you even think about the task failing, always think positively" but I see that way of thinking as a recipe for disaster. Thinking about what to do in the case of failure doesn't mean you want the task to fail, it simply means you're considering another way to approach the problem in case the first approach doesn't work.

It also means you're creating a failsafe or a fallback plan (or backup plan or plan b) in case the first plan doesn't work, that itself is a smart and wise move. You can see that I mentioned thinking about the task failing and creating a solution, I didn't say you should just think about the chance of failure without also thinking of a way out, and that's where most people get it wrong; they think about the chance of failure without thinking of a solution, it's basically the same thing as thinking only about the chance of success (it's probably even worse).

On the other hand, thinking only positively and focusing only on the possibility of success means you don't have any plans in the case of failure, you don't have an alternative route in case the first one is blocked. Anything that makes you think about an alternative approach simply means you have thought about the chance of failure, you simply can't escape it if you're thinking about a backup plan.

source

Thinking positively is bad on its own, thinking negatively is also bad, you have to bring in both of them and strike a balance. "Hope for the best but expect the worse" is a quote I have always loved and I always apply it to everything I do in life. Think about the positive outcome of a task but at the same time, create another plan just in case it fails. If it becomes successful, then great! You can revel in your success and move on but if it fails, then you have another approach at hand to take.

To be continued...

Hmm. As thoughtful as this post is, I don't think hoping for the best and expecting the worst at all times is a good idea. I love the way @Mhizutty says it 'don't be too optimistic' (rephrased). Be optimistic but never ignorant of the negative is what I'll say

Eh, but we are basically saying the same thing na. You saying be optimistic but never ignorant of the negative is the same as saying you should hope for the best outcome but at the same time have it in mind that things might go wrong, that's what it means to expect the worst: you're thinking about the probability of things going wrong

In other words, be a realist. Realism is knowing that things may not go how you want them to, so you expect them to go right or wrong.

Exactly, oil dey your head ๐Ÿ˜‰ realism is the best for me ๐Ÿ˜

Let me step in religiously, you know we've been taught to always think positively because a man becomes what he thinks. But on a normal earth Experience, your scenarios are true. But nevertheless, I still go with positive thinking, because it light up the soul/mind to clear obstacles. But can one do without negative thinking, especially the "what ifs"? No. So it has to be balanced with more of Positivity

Exactly bro, we can't do without the "what ifs" and thinking about them doesn't mean we want the project to fail, but it simply means we are smart enough to also consider the path to take in case things doesn't work out

You're definitely so right about the whole striking a balance thing, experience has taught me that so much optimism leaves you unprepared for when the opposite happens. It's better to be ready on both fronts

That's just it, things can't always be right and at one point, it might go wrong and it's better if we are already prepared so we will know how to deal with it
