Hospitalized on a Christmas

Christmas was very different for me this year, I anticipated that I was going to be in door all day while on bed and really truly this came true unfortunately not exactly as expected. I was on bed all day and all night but it was all thanks to being sick. I mean there is a difference between voluntarily staying on bed and staying on bed forcefully due to sickness- you may argue that staying on bed is staying on bed but not while you're losing your mind and occasionally feeling like you're floating off your body (yes, it was that bad). I knew I wasn't going to die but it felt like it at some point.

It started from midnight of the 24th, I had begun to feel feverish and simultaneously cold, I initially shook it off as a stress reaction but one hour into this weird feeling I began to realise that it was a malaria symptom because it expanded into a striking knee pain and back pain. Those are my malaria symptoms hash-tag I've been bitten by a lot of mosquitoes lately and those blood sucking monsters are simply inevitable.

The back pain got worse and it felt like it was going to break at some point, my knee felt the same way. I managed to push through till morning, by this time I had a very striking headache and could hardly lift my head, neither could I do things on my own. Had to send to semd someone to the pharmacy to get me some medications as prescribed by the doctor I contacted via phone call. My voice was barely audible but was understandable.

I took those medications after which I called someone to come give me a ride to the hospital; it was a really bumpy ride as my eyes were closed through most of the journey and was losing my mind due to the bad roads- potholes and all.

Long story short; I got hospitalized, was at the hospital from the 24th, took those body fluids throughout the night (it was more than one) and injections inclusive. Those needles just had to pierce my skin and were inevitable because I was beginning to lose my mind, I couldn't control my thoughts anymore, I was weak and tired, could barely lift myself off the bed and my vision was blurry.

I at some point thought I was going to die but I'm glad I didn't. I wasn't discharged until afternoon of the 25th which was yesterday; and I'm glad to be alive. After I was discharged i thought I was already as string as I should be and decided to take a walk out of the hospital ward in a bid to stretch my legs but the earth began to shake underneath and my vision couldn't be explained. I had to tell ine of the nurses to help me back to my bed as I wasn't fully strong yet.

Basically my christmas was spent in the hospital but who am I to complain. I'm grateful instead, grateful to be alive, grateful to witness another Christmas, grateful to be of sound health once again and grateful to be able to do things on my own once more and without assistance.

I barely ate anything throughout yesterday as my appetite was equivalent to zero and can hardly taste anything either, my mouth tastes like thise hospital fluids hence eating anything is quite irritating especially when I attempt to drink water. Hence I've been quenching my thirst by taking malt drinks whenever the need arises.

It's a sunday already and everyone is gone to church, but had to stay back as I'm not strong enough to go through the stress plus the noise isn't going to be good for me atleast for now. Since it's gonna be me alone, I took a ride to the nearest eatery and bough fried/jollof rice with chicken and ice-cream since that's the only thing I'm craving at the moment. Thiugh I may not be able to eat it due to my "taste buds gone wrong" but I'd like to satisfy my curiosity.

Coincidentally I got to the eatery just few minutes ago, and while trying to place my order I looked outside the eatery and saw people gathered, decided to find out what was wrong and realised it was a fire. The diesel generator of the eatery had caught fire and the people outside were trying to call the attention of the people indoor; I picked up my phones and ran out of the building while disregarding the fact that I wasn't even strong enough to run. After all there is still something called adrenaline.

The fire was put out all thanks to some brave peeps with a four extinguisher, I simply watched from a distance because I don't see myself being a hero in a situation like this. The fire was quenched as quickly as it started and everyone were back to their normal businesses.

I'm glad to be alive; I didn't die via malaria and neither did I die via a fire accident. I'm so grateful to God for sparing my live and I'm so grateful to everyone both here on read.cash and everyone else out there that wished me sound health and constantly checked on me. I love you all!

Toddles!

The first time you had this malaria, was it not treated completely then? Perhaps it wasn´t and it came back again. The Lord is your strength and always take your drugs too. Sorry
