Myths vs. Facts about Health

Some of the mentors we have in the business venture I am in are in the medical field. Aside from our corporate pharmacist, these mentors conduct trainings about health too. Mindset is everything and having the right mindset and attitude in all aspects including our health is very important because health is wealth indeed. We have to take care of our bodies if we want to enjoy life and be able to perform the important tasks we have to the fullest.

First of all, we have to understand our health, the myths and facts about it and the science behind it. This is the reason why we are educated in this aspect. A better understanding about the basic myths and facts about health can help us improve our mindset towards it.

Myths vs. Facts

❌ Myth: Health is an addition to expenses

✅ Fact: Health is an investment. It affects everything we do.

People think that health is an addition to monthly expenses and they find it expensive sometimes but that is not actually the case. Health is an investment. If we invest a portion of income on it, we can save a lot in the future instead of getting hospitalized and spending more that what we earn there. We lose more money when we are not fit to perform tasks, especially the ones that generate income. Getting sick can sometimes interrupt our ability to earn. It's a lot better to invest at least a small amount of money to be healthy and earn more in return for being able to perform when our bodies are in best condition.

❌ Myth: Cure over prevention

✅ Fact: Prevention will always be better than cure

We always hear that prevention is better than cure and I do take it seriously. I have witnessed many people go broke because of hospitalization while suffering the burden and pain of a disease. Even the loved ones are also burdened by the stress involved in hospitalization, the errands that interrupt their daily routine, the expenses and the anxiety when seeing the patient in bad condition. The worst part is sometimes, the disease has no cure at all and it can cost someone's life. All of these won't happen in the first place if it was prevented. Life could have been a lot better.

❌ Myth: Maintenance medicines can cure you

✅ Fact: Medicines only cure symptoms, not the disease itself

Our mentors who are in the medical field told us about the harsh truth on medications. Those maintenance medicines are literally just for maintaining your condition. They only treat the symptoms temporarily so they are controlled and you don't feel anything nasty. They don't actually cure the disease. Now I know why those who take maintenance medicines never had their disease cured, not even the root cause of it. They only have controlled blood pressure or sugar levels.

❌ Myth: Diet means eating less

✅ Fact: You don't have to eat less, you just have to eat right

Have you heard of someone who gained weight after a weight loss attempt? This myth is the common reason behind that rebound after having a weight loss attempt. They have the wrong understanding that "being on a diet" means eating less and skipping meals which is actually a wrong practice. It brings starvation to the body, making you crave for more after a few weeks or months of depriving yourself of proper diet. This is how some people gain more weight. A proper diet means eating a balanced meal at right amounts. It's the best way to manage weight and maintain a good metabolism. Eating food with the right amounts of the nutrients to nourish our body is still the best practice so our body will function well.

❌ Myth: Optimal health can be achieved when you eat complete meals and exercise regularly, so you don’t need supplements/vitamins

✅ Fact: To achieve optimal health, we must support our meals and lifestyle with proper supplementation

The belief that we don't need proper supplementation is applicable in the ancient times but not anymore in our present time. We are sometimes overfed but undernourished with the quality of foods we have today. The farming methods we have today depletes the nutrients of the foods we eat to produce the supply that will cope up with the high demands even if it means having the need to harvest prematurely sometimes. The quality of soil is also affected by these farming methods, which depletes the nutrients of food as well. Another factor is the fast paced lifestyle today that makes a lot of people too busy to eat healthy foods. Most of us would eat unhealthy, instant foods sometimes due to hectic schedule. These are some of the reasons why the nutrients in the food we eat are depleted and this is where proper supplementation can be helpful. The main purpose of supplements is to actually bridge the nutritional gap brought about by the depleted nutrients in our food nowadays. We just have to choose carefully, the right one for our body.

I really appreciate the holistic learning that our mentors provide. I really value health and learning about this basic myths and facts has helped me improve my mindset towards health and understand the basic do's and dont's to help our bodies function better so we can live a better life.

These are some great points, I absolutely stand by the food point though, skipping meals is not diet, but eating what your body needs and in right quantities is :)

Yes it's true. I am against skipping meals too. It only gives a rebound effect. Eating the right foods like low sugar is an effective diet especially for those who want to lose weight.

It this a pleasure reading this kind of valuable article. I also think so, health is the root of everything. But the irony of the fact is that I am not aware of it. To invest in wealth is an indirect investment none can understand this. That's the reason health awareness is needed.

Yes it's true that health is the root of everything and if we invest on it, our health pays a high interest in return.
