Brainy, Intelligent and Smart. That's how we call people we perceive as wise. That's how also we want others to call us.
But do we really know what true wisdom is? Is it just being able to understand and store facts? Is it merely the skill to recite correctly what being discussed in the classroom? Are you people proven mainly by their class cards teaming with A's or 95's?
Let's assist our understanding the meaning of wisdom and the methods of gaining it.
It should be obvious by now that true wisdom is rooted in a person's use of what he or she knows rather than in how much he or she knows. True wisdom grows with the right focus and planned activities.
Here are some pointers to help us "wise up";
Will to have it. God is the source of true wisdom, and He gives this wisdom to those who ask for it.
It may sound too simple but it's true. Remember King Solomon, considered as the wisest man who ever lived. He sought wisdom and the Lord was so impressed by his choice that He also blessed him with fame, riches and health.
Involve ourself with wise people. We know that people we get close to have certain influence on us. The saying, Birds of the same feather flock together" is true in this sense. If we serious in becoming wise, we must choose wise friends. Our constant exposure to them will positively affect our character.
We should store up knowledge. Our capacity for wisdom increases as we continue to take advantage of every learning opportunity. Learning is not limited to the classroom. Knowledge increases by constant reading, study,observation,analysis and consultation with authorities. Meanwhile, an extensive and balanced list of stored information in our minds can help us to apply the most appropriate information for a given situation.
We should devote time for biblical study and meditation . The Bible is the best source of true wisdom. This is because it contains practical principles for daily living. The Bible Proverbs tested guidelines for success,health,peace,joy,contentment and victory over all sorts of dilemma and problems. Continues reading and study of it's messages will certainly purify our hearts and sharpen our minds.
We should obey God. Obedience to God is a result of wisdom. It is also a way of gaining it. To go against God's laws is foolish, because it only leads to guilt, shame, frustration and failure. On the other hand, obedience leads to wisdom. It clears our mind and spirit from hindrances, making us understand the best response or plan to a given situation or problem.
We should make the most of every opportunity to do good. Wise people know that time is not in their hands. By accepting this, they gain wisdom. They become more focused on the challenges that are present. They make sure that whatever they do now will have a lasting implications and results. This makes them more sensitive to situations and their intention to do good makes them reject evil.
We know that true wisdom is the ability to discern what is right,just and good. We gain wisdom by reading the Bible and obeying its commands. And the best source of knowledge and wisdom is the Bible 📖😇.
A wise person must always have a recognition of God's presence in his/her life and surrounds himself with wise, God fearing people.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere," (James 3:27)
"FOUR THINGS ON EARTH ARE SMALL,YET,THEY ARE EXTREMELY WISE"
The Ants are creatures of little strength,yet they store up their food in summer.
Coneys (rock rabbits) are creatures of little power, yet they make their homes in the crags.
Locusts have no king, yet they advance together in rank.
A Lizard can be caught with the hand,yet it is found in the king's palaces."
Based on the qualities of a wise person that we identified above, would we consider ourself wise?
The book of Proverbs shows us how to get it together and keep it together..Let's live it.
