Every Developing individual needs someone to look up to. Someone upon whom he or she can pattern his or her life. Sadly positive role models are few. Tv and movie personalities, often idolized by young people, more often than not, do not provide good examples to follow. We are therefore challenged to look for the right role models in our society, and follow their example.
Usually young generation now a days, when it comes to qualities they admired, they choose traits according to looks, personality and skills.
LOOKS would mean that the model is admired because of his/her physical traits or characteristics.
PERSONALITY would mean that the model is admired because of his/her character or behavior.
Skills would mean that the model is admired because of his/her talents or abilities.
Consciously or unconsciously, we pick people whom we "idolize" and copy. This is why there are children young people and even adults who are able to copy the way their "idols" talk,walk,dress or behave. Sometimes, the model we choose are admirable in one way yet have certain characteristics that are not worth emulating. And sometimes, we idolize people for the wrong reasons. For example....
. Would you admire a guy who is so macho and who has box office appeal yet carries a bad boy image because of his foul language and rough behavior?
. Would you admire a lady who courageously flaunts her sexiness, sheds her clothes without embarrassment and loves it when men drool ove her?
. Would you admire a man who is a legend on the basketball court, shows good leadership and skills and knows all the right moves yet has a foul temper, bad mouths the referee and doesn't show good sportsmanship?
There are actually some young people who admire characteristics like these. And here's where the danger lies. It is dangerous to have the wrong model. Since you admire them, more often than not, you would copy their ways. Their bad example can influence you to do evil.
We pick not only real people for role models but also cartoon characters, TV personalities and comic book super heroes. 😂 Harmless? Not as you might think. Even Matt Groening, creator of Simpsons agrees that Bart's the main character is a bad role model even for his own kids. In fact, Matt has apologized to his shows fans for this.
As we look for in a good role model, there are qualities we need to know, to check, to copy, to idolize..
A person character must be the first consideration. This means we have to know the person deeply. The first thing we admire in a person is usually his/her looks. If he is ruggedly handsome, if she looks real sweet and pretty, we immediately take a liking for him/her. And that admiration sticks. However looks alone do not make a man ( or a woman). We have to consider the inner qualities of the person.
A person must be down to earth. Choose someone you can identify with. It would be hard to pattern our life after a superhero because he has certain qualities that we would find hard to emulates.
We must consider godliness rather than perfection. No, we won't find a role model who is perfect in every way. Flaws are certain to come out somewhere. But a truly good role model is someone who is godly, someone who loves God and keeps His commandments. This person may have faults and weaknesses, yet he or she would surely be honest about himself.
A person closeness to the role model is recommended. A person who is close to us would be a better influence and an inspiration to us than someone who is far away or who does not know us at all. A parent,an elder brother or sister, an uncle or aunt, or a grandparent would be fine choices. Reason why my parents,my sisters and my brother in law's are my role model because aside that I know them better, they are good and have a compassionate heart to people. And I admire them so much doing this thing. I'll show you some pictures of their advocacy of helping needy people in our area/place. We are not rich but that is not a reason for us not to help others. We can do a lot just find the love of God in our hearts and everything will be easy.

parental guidance is a must in TV viewing as our kids nowadays easily copy and idolized characters on screens and they tend to copy also what tjeir idols are doing behind the scenes. and as you said, its much better to look for people with good reputation in our very locality as role model..
