Salut fams,

I recently upload a post regarding the strike ASUU embarked upon because the federal government of Nigeria has failed to keep it's own part of the bargain. The duo was suppose to meet today and come to a compromise so that the strike can be called off and students can return to school. But in a new development, the federal government has once again proven itself to be lackadaisical and antagonist to the development and progress of the educational sector of Nigeria as it has refuse to adhere to the demands of the academic body which as made the body extend it ongoing strike by 12 months totaling 24months since the beginning of the first strike.

Soworw tells Nigerian students what to do after extension

A socio-political activist, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday asked Nigerian students to ‘teach the country’s leaders who are playing Russian roulette with their future, a big lesson’.

A statement signed by ASUU president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, said this was to give the federal government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues.

It also stated that the roll-over strike was effective from 12.01 am, May 9, 2021.

ASUU said it took this decision after its National Executive Council (NUC) meeting which started on Sunday night at the Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja (UNIABUJA).

Sowore, a presidential aspirant in the 2023 election on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC), called for mass action until Nigerian universities are well-funded.

“Nigerian youths/students must teach these inhuman political rulers playing Russian roulette with their future a big lesson. Let the organising start now. Shut down everything with mass action, stop everything until our higher institutions are well-funded.

“They’re doing this because their kids don’t attend Nigerian universities!” Sowore wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

In another news, the minister of education as begged for forgiveness from the ASSU body. Though he was speculative that the Ramadan fast was part of what causes the delay, it must have been because ASUU had ask unilorin to revoke his certificate.

Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, begs striking university workers for forgiveness

Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has apologized to striking workers of various bodies of Nigerian universities for not responding on time to their demands, asking them to forgive him and the Ministry in the spirit of the just ended Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Adamu, who made the appeal on Thursday at a reconciliatory meeting in Abuja brokered by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, urged the unions including the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), as well as other aggrieved workers, to give the Ministery another chance at resolving the lingering crisis that has affected tertiary education in the country.

Represented at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Andrew David Adejo, Adamu said the Ministry had not abandoned the issues affecting the workers but that prevailing “circumstances had made it look as such.”

While speaking at the meeting, Adejo said Adamu had specifically pleaded for forgiveness and urged that a new round of negotiations be reopened.

“We want to let you know that whatever sins the Ministry had committed before should be forgiven. We have repented and we will not sin anymore. We want you to see us as partners in progress,” Adejo said.

“It in that spirit of forgiveness of the just ended Ramadan fast that we feel that we fixed the meeting to discuss and resolve the issues.

“It may seems as if your employer, the Ministry of Education has abandoned you, but this is not true, that is not the true picture.

“As was captured in the communiqué issued at your last meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the social apartheid the present strike is causing is leading to so many other problems that the earlier we sit down to solve it the better for the country

That's the update for now and I'll sure @Ellawrites and Every other responsible Nigeria students would be sad as I am as we all hope to resume soon as I read on @Olaenny94.com channel. It's just pray they resolve this issue on time. Also make we go dey put hand for work o cos these people are not serious with our education.
