What is the future?
4th January 2022
Let me start by saying I am proud to be called African and I wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world but if the truth has to be told…Africa is far behind. Bear in mind, This is not me bad mouthing my beloved continent this is just me saying the fact. It is sad because we don’t even have prospects. We aren’t even trying to get better it feels like we are even going backward. Where did we go wrong ? Our leaders ? Our forefathers? Maybe they didn’t fight against injustice hard enough or maybe they have subconsciously taught us that whatever the situation we can manage.
The truth is I think our problem started when we stop making provisions for the future. We were giving birth but we weren’t building schools for our kids to attend. We were training medical practitioners but we weren’t building hospitals. We were making plans to fly abroad but we weren’t making plans to build a plane. We used all the money we had to buy cars, houses jewelry no provisions were made for infrastructure. It was more like we stop evolving like we felt we had arrived not unknowing to us that we were far behind.
You see the world was moving at a fast pace but we weren’t. We fell behind in innovation, we failed to rebrand ourself. We took development and growth for granted. This is not a public fault this is the fault of our leaders. Those in governance from the federal government to our local community leaders they are all to be blamed.
I remember when I was younger, we use to buy a lot of things with just 50 naira. We would buy snacks, candy, biscuits, juice-boxes and so many more yet still be left with a lot of cash as change. How we change for worse from such a beautiful life? We had a great history a strong currency, we had strong heritage, and beautiful ancestry stories and culture yet our current state is a mess.
All these started when our government thought it best to ignore the masses. They thought it best to make money off our sweat and tears. We weren’t worth much to them we still aren’t. They weren’t there to serve us No!! Of course not, they believe that the reason why they are our leaders is because they are better than we are. They only want to control us and be little our dreams. We mean nothing to them absolutely nothing!!
It all began when the local leader in charge of bore whole construction for cleans and drinkable supply of water thought it better to use inadequate and cheap material or un-reliable professionals with questionable ethics just because they were cheaper and easier to silent incase he decides to steal.
It all started when we decide that instead of investing in our kids and future generations we thought it better to live for now and nothing else. Our inquisitive mind outside our immediate environment is dead and it is not our fault when the country is hard and things are tough it becomes survival of the fittest everybody tends to care about their immediate welfare and their family’s welfare and life.
We need to go back to our drawing-board as a people, seek help and guidance so that we can retrace our steps. We need more than just prayers, we need action, we need to give audience to men and women who would bring forth change. We need people who aren’t just leaders but people who are also passionate about our future. We need a better understanding of our path, from where we are coming from and where we are meant to be. Africa is a great place let’s make it great again.
Thank you for your time my dear readers ..stay safe and stay happy.
We really need to make our generation take over leadership, Maybe we'd be able to develop that way
