In this time and age it is very rare to find a person who is 100% truthful. This is because the world today strives on greed and is filled with impatience and over ambitious people. Nothing good comes easy, loyalty is hard to find, patience is virtue , the truth will set you free :all these and many more popular saying we hear day in day out yet our minds are adamant to what is really important. As you might have noticed if you are frequent with works on here I love to tell stories a lot this is because most topics require a true story to drive home the point I am trying to make. Well today I am going to tell the story of Mr ajanokuku and his seed challenge.
These are the best sponsors a writer could ask for
A short story
There lived a very wealthy farmer called Mr ajanokuku in a very small village. He had only one wife which was weird in those time considering the amount of wealth he had at his disposal. He had no child which made him sad most of the time but he comforted himself in the saying “Oluwa knows best”. Mr ajanokuku was getting old which meant he needed a successor. He had tried all possible means to get his wife pregnant yet to no avail. He searched for answers from different spiritual leaders but none gave him a satisfactory response. So he decide to do the bean challenge in order to figure out who would become his successor.
You see Mr ajanokuku was well known in the village as a very kind hearted man, even though he was the wealthy man around he was very kind and humble. He used his wealth generously helping the poor, the orphans and the widows. Mr ajanokuku needed to be sure that when he left this world to journey the great beyond he would have a successor who is true to his words and would continue his philanthropical works. So a day after the village festival he declared his intension of choosing a successor amongst his workers and that he was going to test them before he made his pick. He had over 80 workers and everyone of them thought to themselves;
“i would make sure I become victorious in this challenge by all means”
Apart from the fact that Mr ajanokuku was a kind man he was a very smart man. He told them he was going to pick a date for the challenge meanwhile he had already started to observe the effect of his decoration on each workers. Some workers became so active at work trying to impress him. Whenever they saw him coming they made us to put on their best behavior in order to find Favour in his sight. Mr ajanokuku noticed everyone and how they pretended to be the best whenever he was around expect one of his youngest worker Tejiri.
Tejiri was a young orphan who lived a mile away from Mr ajanokuku’ farm. He had been a hard worker from day one, he had to be in order to feed his younger sibling. When other workers asked Tejiri if I was interested in becoming the boss’s successor he would often laugh and say
“that is just impossible I don’t think my luck is that effective to fetch me something as huge as that”
Many thought he was small minded, but he was simply just being realistic and so this didn’t affect the way he did his job both in the presence or absence of the boss. For the last part of the challenge after several weeks of little tasks here and there. Mr ajanokuku met with each worker individually handing them a flower seed he gave each person 3 months to grow their seed and that he was going to announce his successor at the end of the 3 month duration based on the outcome of the seed he gave them.
Finally the day came and it was time for everyone to present what they had done with the seed. Everyone brought huge baskets of flowers : nice colorful with great scent; which each worker that presented his flower the basket presented got bigger. They smiled as they presented their basket of flower saying to Mr ajanokuku.
“I am sure the boss is well pleased sir”
This continued for hours till it was time for Tajiri to present his own flower. He was very scared and embarrassed because he had brought the same seed that the master gave him 3 months ago. He got to the presentation ground with his tail between his legs. All eyes were on him, some people even started to throw comments like “just look at him lazy fool” others said “I am sure it was is foolishness that killed his parents” he kept on walking with his head bowed down till He got to the boss’s chair.
The boss took notice of the fact that tajiri brought back the same seed he asked “young man can you explain why you Brought back the same seed i gave to you 3 months ago” Tajiri explained that he tried his best to plant the seed, made his best effort to make sure it grew but it just wasn’t working. He said he even used from his savings to get extra fertilizers and even spent extra hours to water the seed yet to no vail. The boss smiled and said okay no problem. At the of the inspection, when the time came to announce the winner and successor the boss had chose he called Tajiri’s name. Everyone was so shocked how ? Why ? When ? Again why ?. The boss decided to explain , he made it clear to everyone the he had given them a barren seed:- a seed that couldn’t grow no matter what anyone did about it and as such the only way they could have such huge basket of flowers is if they changed the original one he gave them . Immediately they all shook their heads in shame.
The then added that the purpose of what he did was to find out who was honest and truthful in their ways amongst them of which only Tajiri passed with flying colors. After declaring his disappointment as regards the actions of the other workers he asked them to leave. A few weeks later Tajiri was made chief executive manager, heir and successor to Mr ajanokuku empire m. He also adopted Tajiri’s siblings and looked after them till the end of his days.
