October 16, 2021.

A little side-bits before the main topic....

I started to write this article last October 13 but it was only up to the title only. I was really super busy and I have to prioritize the most important ones and those that have due dates.

As I received another made to order project last October 10 and it has to be delivered by today, October 16. I was given six days to come up with an Elsa of Frozen costume. Though the picture they gave me requires only a headband but for me it is the hat with a long braided hair makes the entire costume complete.

Finally, late at night on October 15, I finished the whole set.

I would have started to finish this article early today but hubby has a doctorā€™s appointment this morning so I started a new project instead which I brought to the doctorā€™s clinic. Our appointment was at ten in the morning but the doctor arrived past 12 noon. With that much time, I was almost able to finish the project I just started. This is a pouch for my phone.

Finally, I am home and is now running my fingers thru the keyboard so I can finish what I started three days ago.

Kindness Mattersā€¦

This is a story of two brothers and a sister. They co-own a piece of timberland. One of the brothers served at the church as a lay minister. Some of his friends at the church approach him regarding the timberland. They want to form an association and want to reclaim that piece of timberland into a residential area.

He approached his brother and sister regarding this matter but no decision has been made as it was difficult to transfer the zoning declaration from timberland to residential. Then the brother died in year 2000, so it was up to his wife to decide.

A meeting was set with the association (this time the association was already formed by the members of the church committee) and it was agreed that the association will reclaim the land to their expense and that they will pay the owners of the land a certain amount payable in six years. This happened in 2008. At the same time the officers of the association will process the change of zoning from timberland to residential.

At the first year, the association was able to pay their monthly due but they started to default and eventually stopped their payment.

Another meeting was set by the brother, his brotherā€™s wife and children and his sisterā€™s daughter, as she too has died. It was to discuss the associationā€™s breach of contract.

The association owed a million of interests on top of the principal that they need to pay off. During that said meeting, they agreed to do away with the interest out of kindness and because the association itself was burdened of looking for their road right of way. The timberland was located in the interior part of the barangay and the government road was quite so narrow. So they bought another road right of way that is much wider and nearer to the main road.

The brother, out of kindness and with love of God, decided to donate a portion of his share to the association for them to build a chapel, which the association has built using their association funds, therefore defaulting again in their payment for the land.

The association continued their monthly payment once again and this time the brother asked the rest of the family if it would be okay if he will first get the whole amount as payment for his share as his wife was already bedridden by then. Out of kindness, the family agreed.

His wife died early this year, after two years of being bedridden. He reflected on this and thought that he would like to enjoy the money that he can collect from the association while he is still alive and so that his daughters will not be burdened with the collectibles. So he called for another meeting with the family.

This time it was attended by his nieces only. He put out his stand to the nieces that he would like to collect what was remaining of his share and asked the nieces what would their stand on this too. The nieces inform their uncle that since the government is offering a tax amnesty for estate tax, it would be advantageous if the association can pay off the whole amount before the amnesty ends so that the transfer taxes wonā€™t be that burdensome.

This was presented to the association officers in another meeting. The uncle, out of kindness, told the association that he will give a hundred thousand discount if they will be able to pay in full. This will be taken from his share. The association officers asked them if it would be okay to set another meeting with the members of the association this time. They said that one of their problem in collecting payment from the members is that the members did not believe that the land has private owners. For them, it was the government who owns the land since it was previously a timberland.

So, in another meeting again, the owner and the officers and members of the association finally met. The meeting was amicable. An agreement was set. Towards the end of the meeting, one of the officers told the owners that four slots which is supposed to be sold at sixty thousand each slot was used by the association as open spaces. This was located in front of the chapel. He asked if the owners would kindly donate the lot instead of the discount. The uncle, out of kindness and after asking a favor, agreed to donate that four slots which is again will be taken from his share. The only favor he asked from the group was that they should hear mass every Sunday.

The nieces on the other hand, had agreed that they will give something to their uncle once all the estate taxes have been paid and if there is still something left from the lot payment.

Hopefully, the association and its members will fulfill their obligation this time. They were given until May 2022 to come up with their full payment.

Have you done any act of kindness, lately? Do you feel good after doing it?

Thanks for reading my story. It is a true story and we are the nieces.

May your uncle be bless by God more!
