What you don't know about Android versions

16 28

Hey guys, I'm just new to this platform and I want to post this article for the purpose of those that are not aware of this. I'm writing about Android and its various versions.

Many smartphone users, most especially users whose phones work on the Android operating system (OS) do not know the names given to the various Android versions.

Android, owned by Google, is a mobile operating system based on a modified version of the Linux kernel, it is designed primarily for smartphones and tablet.

Android is the most dominated smartphone Operating System with 74.45% making it commonly used, compared to iOS which is 22.85%. Many devices other than smartphones run on the Android OS. Devices like digital camera, smartwatch, calculators, Payment-On-Sales (POS) machine use the Android OS.

In the year 2005, Android was bought by Google which was making operating systems for smartphones as well as digital cameras and named their versions in alphabetical order according to desserts names.

This means that after Google 9.0 Pie, which is the latest version of Android, the next Android name will start from the alphabet Q.

Here are the forteen names given to Android versions and they are named after either sweet treats or desserts:

1) Android 1.5: Android Cupcake

2) Android 1.6: Android Donut

3) Android 2.0: Android Eclair

4) Android 2.2: Android Froyo

5) Android 2.3: Android Gingerbread

6) Android 3.0: Android Honeycomb

7) Android 4.0: Android Ice Cream Sandwich

8) Android 4.1 to 4.3.1: Android Jelly Bean

9) Android 4.4 to 4.4.4: Android KitKat

10) Android 5.0 to 5.1.1: Android Lollipop

11) Android 6.0 to 6.0.1: Android Marshmallow

12) Android 7.0 to 7.1: Android Nougat

13) Android 8.0 to Android 8.1: Android Oreo

14) Android 9.0: Android Pie

This is how they are named by Google. How many did you know? And since which version are you an Android user? Use the comment box below
