Another Wave of Devastation and Heartaches

Do you know how heartbreaking it feels when you haven’t fully recovered and moved on from the super typhoon Odette last December? She caused great havoc and made a lot of families become homeless because the super typhoon Odette turned down all of their homes. It was a devastating month for the people who had just lost their homes. And now, for the second time, another typhoon is wreaking havoc and dumping torrential rain. The feeling when you were still in the middle of starting back from the start and building your new home again, but then again it was turned down by the typhoon for the hundredth time.

I just couldn’t help but question, "Why?"

The reason why I was not able to update for two consecutive days is that I was having trouble with my internet connection because of the heavy rainfall. It’s been raining nonstop since last week, and it’s not just normal rainfall because the rain was pouring so heavily, it’s like it was pouring hundreds of gallons of water per second that causing heavy floods in the different areas that were affected by the typhoon.

The northern part of Cebu was under signal number one (1), but the way the rain pours nonstop feels like it’s already under signal number three. The northern part of Cebu was under signal number 1 and already suffering from non-stop heavy rainfall. Then imagine how much more those parts of the Visayas areas where the typhoon passes, especially the part of Leyte where it gets the most affected by the typhoon.

Here in our place, the roads are already blocked by a strong water current, which is why they can no longer be accessible by some vehicles. Most areas along the highways are already flooded, and the bridges have already been damaged by the strong water current from the river. The devastating views of the places where all the houses were already gone and the roof was the only thing that was visible. It’s so sad to see the view of the places that are already flooded. The rescuers and volunteers were all alert and ready to serve and help those people who were in need.

This typhoon is not as strong as the typhoon Odette because it doesn’t have that strong wind, but the problem that it brought is the heavy rainfall that has been pouring since last week that flooded a lot of areas in Eastern Visayas, especially in the part of Leyte where it caused a lot of damage and took a lot of lives.

You know that I don’t usually open my social media accounts aside from read cash and noise cash, but these past few days I’ve been on my Facebook timeline and newsfeed to gather information, updates, and news from each place about the typhoon. I wasn't expecting the heartbreaking news that I would see when I woke up this morning as I scrolled through my news feed. I didn’t know that the typhoon had already caused so much damage, not just here in Cebu but to the places in Eastern Visayas too.

I was truly heartbroken by what I saw in my newsfeed. According to what I've read in the news, a ten-landslide event occurred in ten different locations in Leyte. When I saw the videos and photos uploaded by the concerned citizens, I couldn’t help but feel saddened by what I saw. The houses are already covered in mud and some of them are already buried under it. Only the roofs were left visible.

I was heartbroken when I saw the kids and other survivors from the landslide who got a lot of bruises and cuts all over their bodies. But what made my tears fall was seeing the lifeless bodies of those people who were not able to survive and save themselves from the landslide that took down all their homes. A lot of people lost their daughters, sons, sisters, brothers, and parents.

It was a traumatic event that will never be forgotten.

Mother nature truly is the scariest when she gets mad. She will wipe out everything that gets in her way. Some people really don’t learn from past incidents, and what’s worst is that the innocent ones are the ones who will suffer and be affected by their wrongdoings. We shouldn’t be too hard on our mother nature because we still don’t know what she’s capable of once she gets mad. Just a single strong magnitude earthquake will wipe us all out. That is why we should take good care of our mother nature, because that’s the only thing that keeps us alive in this world.

STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

Tama juddd. There's no cons in taking good care of our Mother Nature. It would always be our loss if we keep on repeating the same mistakes over the past years.
