What is your first thought when you hear for "special needs"? It certainly is something special and something that needs our attention. We are all different and respecting differences between children and people is crucial for one society. Special needs refers to some specific difficulties and disabilities that could be mental, physical, psyhological and medical. We can see children with special needs everywhere around us, but sometimes we don't notice. We shouldn't be blind and deaf when it comes to them. We must hear, look and pay attention to those children who really need help and support.
Schools for children with special needs
In my country, there are several schools for kids with special needs. My husband works in one of them. His job is really humane and requires dedication. He takes care of those children as if he were their parent and not just a teacher. He usually gets home exhausted, a little sad, but at the same time happy because he makes those children happy every day. They like him very much and he is always trying to motivate them to relax and to do everything what they like and know to do best. He is trying to improve their selfe-confidence and he is very good at it. He always takes care of their needs in general but most importantly he also takes care of their current needs. Their mood changes many times during the day and they have different needs, so he needs to be very dedicated.
What have I learned about children with special needs that I did not know before?
Since my husband works in school for kids with special needs, I have learned a lot about them. They are very sensible and emotional. They sincerely show their emotions and like to hug very much. Hugs make them happy. When my husband enters the classrom, he always gets a hug from one or several of them. They also sincerely show a negative emotions, like anger, fury... They don't know to lie and they have love for everybody. They are usually talented, they like to make something creative, to sing, to play some instrument but usually they are talented just for one thing. My husband took photos of some of their works.
It is really creative work. They express their emotions trough their works. Music relaxes them and has a positive effect on their behavior. Works with plasticine also have a positive impact on their feelings and behavior. Here is one their work with plasticine.
Of course they are all different and these are just some of the characteristics they could have.
Children with special needs in regular schools
My country supports inclusion and allows freedom of choice when it comes to enrolling children with special needs in regular schools. I think it is good, but I believe that is harder to those children to adapt. Children could be cruel sometimes and they could hurt children with special needs, with or without intention. Children should be encouraged to behave properly and to have a lot of understanding for children with special needs. They should give them a chance to get to know them better, to include them in all activities, to look at them as a human beings like every other human being and not a being with a problem, to be kind and patient, to discover their qualities and not just a difficulties. Parents should teach their children to respect differences, to behave carefully with special needs children and to help them when it is needed.
Support children with special needs always and everywhere.

Thank you very much for reading.
I know what you mean. It's a difficult topic and I have personal experience on the matter. I agree that signing up a child with special needs in a regular school is a challenge. Bullying is among the biggest issues because for some reason the will to kick out the odd ones is deeply ingrained in human mind. And bullying leaves scars for life.
