2021 has been a year full of challenges and surprises. With a month left before it ends, we would want to evaluate ourselves and take a closer look at how we have performed throughout the year.
I believe this month is the last chance for us to assess and determine our drawbacks within ourselves. That way, we can prepare ourselves for the upcoming year and start it with a positive note.
Having said that, we need to detoxify our hearts first and get rid of negativity. This is to start fresh, set the tone positively, and hope for the best.
So how do we detoxify our hearts and get rid of negativity?
Identify your negative beliefs.
Just like acknowledging yourself that you're not okay, identifying your negative beliefs towards getting rid of negativity is the first huge step of detoxifying.
When you learn to identify these beliefs in yourself, it's easier to handle and manage negativity when it attacks. Let's say, you have this negative belief of believing all people are selfish.
Of course, that will plant in your head that every person you stumbled upon is selfish. You have generalized all people are selfish and you made automatic judgments already. That's not fair. Maybe you had a bad experience when you were younger, you had a trauma or anything but that doesn't make the world as what you think.
Or it could be something personal like you're always hard on yourself by telling, "I'm not good in anything, there's nothing special about me".
Is it possible for someone who does not have something they're good at? I mean, we all have imperfections but there's must be something in you that stands out. You should start doubting that belief and focus on the things that you're good at. That way, it boosts your self-esteem and keeps you on the go.
Be aware when you start being negative again.
Identifying negative beliefs is such a huge step in getting rid of negativity. However, if you find yourself being negative again, you need to stop and practice the ways of handling anxiety.
It could be in a form of doing recreational activities like going for a walk, biking, playing sports, exercising. Or writing down your thoughts and throwing them away in the trash, or practicing the breathing technique.
Practice the attitude of gratitude.
One factor why a person becomes so negative is that he/she forgets to look at the things he/she has. Instead, they always look into something they do not have and if they do not get that thing, they get frustrated and be negative again.
I know I have mentioned in my recent articles about toxic positivity, it is a manner of saying positive things to yourself when in fact it's critical to face the situation and do something about it.
But this is a different situation. If someone looks at the ordeal you are into, you have everything from material possessions, reputation, good relationship with family and friends and you still choose to be negative, I believe it is not a good habit anymore.
Develop a character of practicing the art of gratitude. The more you do it, the more it becomes fluid. I mean, negativity is normal. It's always there, it's just a matter of how you handle it. You know, our brains have a biased reaction to negativity. That means to say, our brains always look for survival.
How can we practice the attitude of gratitude? Think of 5 things you have when you start your day and before you sleep. That's one factor of improving one's grateful heart. You can start by saying, "I opened my eyes today, I'm breathing, I can smell, I can hear, I can walk". That is so much to be grateful for.

Just like what you have said ate, all of us are unique and surely has something that stands out among others. Our imperfections make us unique individual. No one can ever play our role better than us.
