Philippines Mythical Creatures Pt 2

We tackled about Aswang, Tiktik, Manananggal, Diwata, Kapre, and Mangkukulam in my previous post. Now lets talk about other mythical creatures in the Philippines. 

Duwende

Duwende is dwarf in English. They are goblins or elves that give good luck or foresee a future bad fortune to people. But not all duwende are good. Some duwendes are wicked and are believed to cause children's death. Duwendes behavour depends on how people treat them. They can be good or mischievous. They normally come out every noon and at night. Filipinos murmur words like "tabi tabi po" which translates to "excuse me" to excuse themselves for thinking maybe they bother Duwendes. Filipinos also leave food on the corner to offer for Duwendes that resides in the house. They also like to play around and take something and laugh while the person trie to find it and give it back when they feel like it or when the person asks politely them to please give it back. They are aso belived to like showing themselves in children. In modern beliefs, Duwende live in little houses and trees and in termite mounds. They are also similar to another mythical creature called nuno sa punso. 

Nuno sa punso

These are dwarflike nature soirits and it living in a termite mounds or anthills. Nuno means "ancestor" and punso means "mound" and sa means "in". So Nuno sa punso means "Ancestor living in the mound". Nuno looks like a dwarflike old man with a long beard and is snappish or easily angered that will do harm to people who damage or disturb his house which is the mound. He does this by punishment like for example when you poke or punch its mound, he will make your finger or your hand swollen. Step on it and he will make your feet swollen. He will do this by spitting on the person's body part and the person will then experience soreness or even pains and swollen genitals when you pee on their house. They can punish you by swelling or body parts, pain , vomiting of blood . etc. They live near trees, Behind large rock is underneath, riverbanks, caves or someone's backyard. 

Tikbalang

Tikbalang is a half-man, half-horse creature and is belived to be very evil. Tikbalang has a horse head and a body of human and a feet of a horse. It roams at night to look for a woman to rape and soon, that woman will give birth to another tikbalang. They are also known to cause tourists to losetheir way in mountains and forests. Those tourists are sometimes hepled by Diwatas and Engkantada given the fact that they are good people. Tikbalang are very tricky to people and make people see things that aren't real that drives a person insane. It is said that it can free them from tikbalang's curse if you wear you clothes inside out. Tikbalangs are sometimes can ba tamed when you asks politely to pass by in mountains and forests. Some say that when the sun is shining while raining indicates that a pair of tikbalang is being married.

Tiyanak

This is the unborn babies that was aborted and babies that died without being baptized and are transformed into evil spirits. And it can also be the seed of a woman and a demon. Tiyanak eat living victims. The aborted fetus comes back to take revenge on it's mother. Most tiyanaks are believed to live in the forest. And when a human comes, they pretend to be a normal baby. When the human gets the tiyanak, it transform to its true form and eats the human. 

Wakwak

It is from the word Uwak which means Crow. The wakwak flaps it wings to make a sound while flying indicating that there is a Vampire or ghost or monster or any other mythical creatures. It is also belived to grab its human victim at night. It prefers to haunt the provincial areas of the Philippines. It looks like a big Crow with big talons and a batlike large wings. It is also said that is another form of vampire. And that it is a creature associated to witches. It is sometimes a crow that turns itself to it's wakwak's form
