Pangasinan is located at Central Luzon. Lingayen is the capital of Pangasinan. The province is 5,451.01 square kilometers. It consists of 4 cities - Urdaneta City, San Carlos City, Alaminos City, and the independent Dagupan City. It also has 44 municipalities and a total of 1364 barangays. It is ranked 3rd in the country's most number of Barangays. The most populated barangay is Bonuan Gueset in Dagupan City.
Pangasinan is discovered by Austronesian people which call themselves Anakbanwa at 2500BC. Wangdom of Pangasinan is recognized as The Kingdom of Luyag na Kaboloan in Chinese records and it is recorded to be an importamt kingdom for trades in ancient times.
People from Pangasinan are called Pangasinan or Pangasinense and the dialect of Pangasinanis also called Pangasinan although Ilocano and Filipino are also spoken in most parts. Pangasinan dialect is similar to Malayo-Polynesian language. It is also similar to Ibaloi dialect that is spoken in Benguet.
Pangasinan means "place of salt" or "place of salt-making". It is originated from the word pang which means "for" and asin which means "salt" and an signifies a location. With these being said, the province is a major producer of Salt in the Philippines. It's product includes bagoong which is salted krill and alamang which is a shrimp paste.
There are many tourist spots in Pangasinan, this includes the Hundred Islands National Park, Patar beach, Depth pool, the Manaoag Church and the Bangus Festival in Dagupan City.
