I saw this video on Youtube about babies weird facts. I thought of sharing this here as some mothers may not know about these facts.
Babies are the most adorable creature in this world. "They are born to seek love, to be in that beautiful protective web of emotions that give, nurture. They invite us to be the best versions of ourselves, to rewind, to cast away the cynicism that poisons and instead make the loving web their intuition searches for. I see their hearts as a compass, the needle spinning until it finds real love, their true north and ours."
Only true mothers knows what's best for their babies. However, there are things about babies that mothers aren't aware of. They are pure and innocent but they have unique and weird characteristics that adults would never thought.
Here are weird facts about babies according to research:
Newborn babies can't cry.
It may seem that what they only do is to cry. They certainly do crying, however, they don't shed tears. They have fully functional tear ducts and glands but they are only capable to secrete enough tears to moisten the surface of their eyes. Their tears are expected to fall after one to three months for as long as they doesn't have blocked tear duct.
Babies are able to crawl from birth.
It's magical the moment a baby is born and placed on it's mother's chest. They instinctively crawl onto their mother's chest for feeding within the moment they were born.
Babies have three times as many taste buds as adults.
Adults approximately have 10,000 taste buds, new born babies on the other hand have 30,000 taste buds not just on their tongue but also on the back, sides and roof of their mouth. So it's not surprising why they grab everything and taste everything in their sight.
Babies have more bones than a fully grown adult
We all thought that a fully develop adult have more bones than a tiny new born baby. However, they actually born with almost 300 bones. The total bones of fully develop adult is 206, so it's approximately 100 more bones than we adults have. Are you wondering where these extra bones go? Well, as babies grow, their bones infuse together to form a single bone particularly in the spine and skull.
Babies don't have knee caps
Surprisingly, despite of having more bones than adult, babies don't have kneecaps (not in the traditional sense). Their knees are almost completely made up of softer cartilage unlike with the kneecaps of adults. It is the same flexible connective tissue found in our nose, ears and at the end of our bones. Those cartilage are strong enough to support a baby's body and flexible enough to allow their continued growth and development.
Newborn babies are colorblind.
The moment they open their eyes for the first time, what they only see is grayscale from black to white. Their retina and brain nerve cells responsible for vision are not fully developed yet. They gain their full color vision at around five months old.
Babies can breath and swallow at the same time.
This wierd fact is something that adult can't do, breath and swallow at the same time. A baby's larynx or voice box and hyoid bone are positioned high up in its nasal cavity, much like snorkel. But this a ability will lost at around seven months old.
Babies can swim from birth.
We are born to have instinctive diving reflexes called laryngeal reflex, bradycardiac reflex and mammalian reflex. Young babies when submerged under water have these reflexes active. They instinctively hold their breath, closing the nasal and sinus cavities. However, as newborn approach six months old, these underwater ability quickly disappear.
Babies can sleep with their eyes open.
It's kind've creepy when a baby sleep with open eyes but it's actually very common to them. The doctors called this opened-eye sleep or nocturnal lagopthalmus.
Babies produce their own milk too.
This is one their weirdest facts, both boys and girls babies are able to lactate too like their mother. Secreting their own breast milk is called witch's milk . This thought to affect 5% of babies from as young as two months old and can last indeed to early childhood.
Babies can't taste salt.
Adults have five levels of taste: sweetness, saltiness, bitterness, sourness, and umami (savoury flavor in meat, milk and mushroom). Eventhough babies have three times more taste buds than adults, they are more hypersensitive to more sweet and bitter flavours. Research shows that they are unable to taste salt until they reach four months old.

OTHER FACTS ABOUT NEWBORN BABIES:
Peeling or cracking skin around the wrists or ankles is common, especially in babies who have gone past their due date. As new skin cells grow, this condition will clear up without treatment. Newborns often have a lot of downy fuzz on their backs, arms and ears. This will soon rub off and disappear.Β
Your baby's hands and feet may look blue for the first few days. This is normal. If you notice other parts of the baby turning blue, call your baby's healthcare provider immediately.
Babies clear their noses by sneezing. A stuffy nose, which is most noticeable when the baby is nursing, is common during the first days of life.
A newborn can only see well for 8 to 12 inches. When an object is moved beyond this range, your baby's eyes wander and may appear crossed. As the eye muscles mature, your baby will be able to focus both eyes on the same object at the same time.
Your infant will have a very large head in relation to the rest of the body. At birth, your infant's head takes on a melon-shaped appearance to help it fit through the birth canal.Β It will return to its normal shape a few days after birth.
Crying is their way of communicating (and relieving tension or boredom). Babies may cry for food, when uncomfortable, bored or in pain, or if they just want to be held close.
The effects of hormones may cause your newborn to have some swelling in the breasts or scrotum or a little bloody fluid/mucus coming from the vagina. These will go away and do not require treatment of any kind. Leftover hormones from Mother may cause both boys and girls to have swollen nipples. This swelling will go away a few days after birth.
