Conjunctivitis
Eye flu is known as conjunctivitis.
Conjunctivitis, often called "Apolo" from where I come from in Ghana is a conmmon eye condition worldwide. It causes inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin layer that lines the inside of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye of the which covers the white part of the eyeball. It can be caused by allergies or a bacterial or viral infection. Conjunctivitis can be extremely contagious but may last several days to a week(7-8) approximately and it is very common in the rainy or wet seasons. It is hard to determine the exact cause of every case of conjunctivitis. This is because some signs and symptoms may be similar.
Symptoms of conjunctivitis include;
°Redness of the eye
°Itchness or having burning sensation .
°Watery discharges around the eyes
°Puffy eyes (swollen eyes)
°A Feeling somehow like something is in the eye and needs rubbing.
°Running nose or sneezing.
~~~Here are some precautions that you can take to avoid getting pink eye.
Home remedies
~ Apply a cold compress. Soak a clean cloth in warm or cool water. Wring out the excess water. Place the damp cloth on the eye for a few minutes. Remove the cloth and wash your hands immediately.
~ One can also use lubricating eye drops to soothe irritation or burning sensation in eyes.
~ A person infected with the pink eye should avoid touching the eyes. Touching or rubbing the eyes can worsen symptoms. In case one feels the need to touch the eyes, then hands must be washed before and after touching the eyes.
