Why Do You Need To Sharpen Your Skills? I believe each and every person were given gifts, talents or skills. Gifts are meant to be used. Hiding your talent means you don't appreciate the gift that you receive. Let's take a look at it this way. You gave a smartphone to someone close to you. It wasn't the most expensive one, but it took you months to save so you can buy that phone. However, the person you gave that phone to, did not use the phone. How would you feel?
Hello again my fellow BCH lovers and read.cash authors. Let me ask you this question. Are you doing your best when you work on something? Are you using your best skill in your work? Or you are forced to do something that you don't like to do or you don't even know why you are working on it?
Each of us have different skills. Some are good at dancing, some are good at playing musical instruments or singing. Then there are gifted writers, and there are creative artists. Some are great surgeons, some are highly skilled as carpenters. Then there those who geniuses when it comes farming. As Albert Einstein said:
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
And you can't expect a monkey to be a good swimmer either. Do you know that those who excel in math rarely do great when it comes to English?
Anyway my point is, each and everyone of us are given a unique skill. And if we can use that specific skill, especially when we love using that skill, to earn money, then we will be earning money while doing something that we love. That would be living a dream to most us, right?
But here is another question:
Do you sharpen your skills?
Preparation
The great Abraham Lincoln said:
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe."
Meaning, if he is given a task with a limited time, he will spend more than half of that time preparing. If take a look at some of the successful people in history, they did not achieve success in one try.
Michael Jordan said he missed 10,000 times shooting basketballs. I don't think even Stephen Curry was accurate as he is today when he was just starting to learn how to play basketball.
Sharpen Your Skills
Whatever your skills are. Teaching, writing, drawing, farming, singing or whatever, to achieve excellence in that field, you need to sharpen your skills.
I mentioned many times, that I wanted to use my drawing skills to have an additional source of income. Setting modesty aside, I know I can draw. However, if I offer my skill as a service, I wanted my would be clients to be satisified. Meaning, finish my work at the shortest amount of time possible without sacrificing the quality of my work. For me that's excellence.
Learn, Practice, Repeat.
These are three basic steps in sharpening your skills.
Learn. Learn the basics. Then learn to improve your skills.
In doing illustration, I love using Medibang Paint.I already know how to use the app. But I still keep searching the Internet for ways to improve my skills. I kept looking for more efficient techniques.
Even in writing, I always try to improve my writing. Even in composing the title. Sometimes, I spend at least half an hour before I can come up with a good title. Good, as in rated at least 70 points and above in Monster Insights, Headline Analyzer.
Practice. I have read once in old issue of the Readers' Digest phrase that says:
"Learn by doing, teach by showing."
Meaning, the best way to learn is by doing it. And practicing it means doing it. I don't think anybody can learn to play the piano by simply memorizing the music piece composed by Bethoven.
Repeat. Need I say more?
Why Do You Need To Sharpen Your Skills?
In this highly competitive world, those who have mastered their skill set are the ones who get the attention. Thus, do your best in every thing that you do, even no matter how little it seems. Even if you are just sweeping the floor, make sure that it is spotless before you say, you are done.
Excellence can't be achieved by accepting what is seems "good enough". Always strive to be better. To be the best in your field. That can only be done by sharpenning your skills.
This is me talking to my self.
Skills are very important, whatever you do if you have it everything will be easy. everyone has its own skill its up to you on how you improve of what you have.
