What's so special about September 1?
Yes, it's the first of September! And what is so special about it? It's the last third part of the year, so what?
Is it because it's the start of the school year? In some parts of the globe it is.
Is it because it's the start of Autumn in your part of the globe? or is it spring?
Is September one special to you?
Hello, friends and subscribers, sponsors, and aliens! In this post I will discuss about September. What it means to the Filipinos and what it means to our family.
A Short History Lessons
First A Short History Lessons About September. Let's take a look at the name first. The name September came from the latin word "septem" which means seven! Wait! That doesn't add up? September is the ninth month the year! Why call it September then? Just as "octo" means eight but it's the tenth month of the modern calendar!
Can anybody make a guess? I won't continue this blog until somebody guessed it right. No peeking in Wikipedia please!

No guesses? If say, it's because Google Translate misinterpreted "septem" as "nine", then you are wrong! (I wonder if the word "Google" already existed that time).
Here is the explanation for that. In the old calendar known as the calendar of Romulus, which is the oldest known Roman calendar by the way, has only ten months per year! (Wow! I guess they get old much faster at the time.) And the year start's with March! And if I interpret what I am reading correctly, it was Julius Ceasar who reformed the calendar and added January and February to what was known as Julian Calendar.
So, in the old calendar, September was indeed the seventh month, thus the name. In the Julian calendar, they added two months before March. Making September as the ninth month, but they retained the names of the months. (Don't ask me why they did not add the two new months after December, because I have no idea at all).
Occasions During the Ber Months!
Let's talk about the special occasions during the 'Ber' months.
October is the 'October Fest' month, or Beer Fest month. I'm not sure where this started, but because of commercialism, it's also celbrated here in the Philippines. Then on October 31st, is the Halloween night. Another festival that originated from the western countries that was brought here in the Philippines, again, because of commercialism.
All Souls Day, and All Saints' Day are celebrated on the first and second of November. These two dates are dedicated to remember the loved ones who passed on the next life and to remember the saints.
December is of course, Christmas month. The month the Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in December 25. FYI, the feast day of St. Nicholas (aka Sta. Clause) is on December 6.
But what about September? I can't think of anything celebrated during September... except for...
September 1 in the Philippines?
Do you know what happens in September 1 in the Philippines? What this day means to the Filipinos? You see, Christmas season does not start in December 1 in the Philippines. Not in November 1, and not in October 1. On this day, the airwaves and most public places are filled with one music from one famous local artist. Here is the song
Yes! Believe it or not, and you better believe it, Philippines has the longest Christmas season in the whole world! The Christmas season starts in September 1 with that song being played on almost every radio station, and in the malls as well.
Special Day For Our Family.

He is our second son. Born in September 1 via c-section. And for four years now he has capture the hearts of the people around him with his cute little ways.
