Bad Travelling
May 26, 2022. No. 255
The 3rd season of the series Love Deaths & Robots on the Netflix platform recently premiered. It is a set of episodes isolated from each other, of short duration, generally about 5-15 min. It is futuristic and their teaching is the best in each chapter. I recommend it 100%.
One of the chapters that I liked the most was the 3x02, entitled "Bad traveling".
The chapter begins with a ship that we could say of merchants, in a storm in the middle of the night. Then a "thanapod" (to refer to a creature similar to a crab but of gigantic dimensions) gets on the boat. Immediately the slaughter begins. There is no way to stop it due to its strong shell.
Leaving a few alive, he falls into the ship's hold after the deck cracks under his weight.
Then the men of the ship, after the death of their captain, choose a new captain in the most democratic way possible, using the short or long sticks. The fear was evident and they needed someone to make the decisions. After being chosen the strong sea, he sends one of them to the cellar, to see the situation of the thanapod. What we will see next leaves us speechless again, since the monster could speak, using a human head for it.
He wanted to be taken to an island that was relatively close, so he could feed there, massacring its inhabitants. The man is cunning and tells him that he will fulfill his wish, but also informs him that he is the only one who can keep the crew calm, so nothing should happen to him. In this way, I look for the monster not to eat it before. He also asked him to vomit what he had eaten from the captain so that he could find the key to the box where the captain kept his firearm. This way he would be the only one armed on the ship.
When picking up the gun, the first thing he does is hand the monster over to the one who had previously been chosen as the boss. Sacrifice it. A wise decision. After explaining that the monster wanted a passage to the next island. The new boss further explains that taking the monster to the island means sacrificing numerous innocent lives there, so he has a plan, which is to continue a little further than the islands and leave it on a deserted island. He submits it to a secret vote among all. He gives them a blank piece of paper to put a circle indicating that they prefer to take it to a desert island or an x, which indicates that they want to satisfy the wishes of the creature.
At the end of the voting, he comes out to give the result. He begins by saying that the papers were slightly marked and that only he knew whose paper it was. Also, there were two cowards in his crew, who had preferred to mark an x, and he kills them instantly, feeding them to the monster. In this way he lets the others know that they all agreed on the same idea, taking the creature to a desert island.
After that, the crew mutinies him, trying to end his life. But he was prepared and kills them all, except one who had remained hidden so as not to participate. That's when he tells him before pushing him into the cellar as well, that everyone had preferred to mark an x ββon the paper, that it wasn't necessary to mark the papers because they were all cowards.
Finally, he goes to the cellar to talk to the monster and sets it on fire. The monster is trapped and it is impossible for him to get out of the ship, so the captain was able to save himself and in turn, save the inhabitants of the island.
This episode is one of the best I've seen in this series. The animation is excellent and the script, along with its soundtrack, is a delight. I invite you to see them all.
I just watched the trailer and it looks amazing! This is exactly the type of series I will love, I will go check it out on Netflix
