Exodus 33:12-23
The main task of a leader is to insert influence in the followers without any force or form of trickery. The task of a spiritual leader then is not just to influence, but to ensure the movement of God’s people from where they are to where they ought to be in God. The clearer and better understanding of God-given assignment or purpose will determine the kind of interaction, request to table before God, and an effort to be made in getting the assignment fulfilled. Moses understood this in the scriptural text in consideration and approached God accordingly. Meanwhile, one the problems with mankind since the fall of man is the usage of freewill and common sense. The continual usage of man’s freewill without being disciplined from the corruption of man’s fall in the Garden of Eden, nurtured with the word of God and renewed in Christ, will continually display the corruption suffered in Eden. The man, Moses, is on a divine assignment to ensure the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, so as to lead the Israelites to worship God in the wilderness as demanded by God. With all the acts of God seen in the physical manifestations in Egypt; And Jehovah went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the right away, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, to go by day and night (Exodus 13:21) and Angels guarding them as mandated by God in His promise to Moses and His people, he expressed the importance of having God in reality among them and not before them alone.
The willingness of God to show us His ways and know understandingly the ways of God, will reveal God to us and make Him to be known among us and to the other people of the earth. The basis of having a purpose to be fulfilled for God, which is predominantly of God and His people, prompted Moses to place the request before God, in spite of the acts of God encountered at different times consistently. God granted the request of Moses because his request expresses deeply the importance of having God among them and also align to God’s intention concerning His people. The primary importance of having God among us is simply to differentiate or distinguish or separate us from other people on the surface of the earth with His Presence in all our endeavours and unto His glory; IMMANUEL (God with us). Exodus 33:16 declared it as this, “For in what shall it be known that I and Your people have found grace in Your sight? Is it not in that You go with us? So we shall be separated, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
There are numerous and uncountable blessings in having God among us and the blessings include but not limited to the following:
It births and brings up in us the commitment unto holy living, as God is Holy. Leviticus 19:2. Without holy living, no man can see God. Hebrews 12:14
There is assurance of rest on all sides and most importantly, God’s rest. Exodus 33:14
God among us will ensure we are brought up and restored. Exodus 33:15
There is certainty of answered prayers and miracles in accordance with God’s will. Exodus 33:17
It makes available unto us God’s goodness. Exodus 33:19
There is room for the enjoyment of God’s mercies (graciousness) and compassion. Exodus 33:19
There is always fullness of joy and God’s Kingdom pleasure forevermore. Ps 16:11
There is sure protection and security. Exodus 33:22; Psalm 91
There is privilege of having God’s revelation. Exodus 33:23
God will show us His glory, Exodus 33:21-23
