Things to note while going for an interview

We all in one time or the other in our lives have gone / will go for an interview either for work, career or academic purpose. Are we going for the next interview just the same way we have being going before? What are we planning on doing differently this time around? Well, I will be pointing out the areas we should focus on and things we should do before going for our next interview.

GOING FOR AN INTERVIEW? MAKE SURE TO DO THE FOLLOWING;

  • Make your research about the organisation

There are organizations that are not for everybody, don't be too desperate to get a job and therefore jump into whatever organization you see. Some doors are not really open doors, they are just traps in disguise.

First reason why you should make your research about the organization is;

For you to be sure it is exactly what you are really looking for and not a den of lion with the entrance of a sheep's house. Some years back, I heard of a story of one lady, she was a very fresh graduate who was searching for a good job when she met an old time friend of hers who told her there was vacancy at own workplace and she can apply. She was very happy and she didn't care to ask the nature of their job, she went for their interview and she passed, she was told to resume work the next week as a secretary with a pay of $500 monthly which she concurred. It was after starting work there she was told to take an oath that whatsoever happens in the organization will be kept a secret and no one should ever find out about it, as at that time, it was too late to opt out so she had to take the oath. She later realized that people are been killed for ritual purposes for the growth of the organization. A very good reason we should make a deep research about the organizations we are applying to so that we will not become victims of unforseen circumstances.

Second reason why you should make your research about the organization is;

For you to know how you should present yourself when you get there. Searching through the records of people working with the organization, how their interview normally look like, the organization policies, the company's interviewer (their strengths and weaknesses), the founder of the organization (their likes and dislikes) and other things you need to know about the organization. This will give you an edge of how the interview will look like and how you would be able tackle questions.

  • Research the role

Make your research about the role you are applying for. Yes I know you have experience in your field and you know exactly what you are going into but don't be too relaxed cause you never can tell where questions can come from. It's very likely for you not to know everything about the role you are applying for, ofcourse you may think you know but it's impossible to know everything even after your research. There's a popular saying that "no knowledge us lost", all you just have to do is to make more research about the role, try finding out about people who have functioned or who is still functioning in that particular role, what they did best and also their mistakes and pick important lessons from it.

  • Let your dressing speak sense

Don't just dress anyhow, make your research about the type of dress sense people in the organization have, you don't necessarily have to copy them, just don't dress off the style. Dress decently and not too exposed, let your dressing be moderate and classic, choose your colour combination carefully and be creative with it.

  • Be confident and be positive

Have enough confidence in yourself, even if the former interviews have not been going so well, have faith that this one will come out positively. If you are already negative about it from the start, there's every possibility that it would not later come out well because you would not have given it your very best. So be positive and be confident, let the interviewer sense positivity in you and let them also see how confident you are, this will convince them about how active and confident you can be while handling issues.

  • Be relaxed, composed and put on a radiating smile

Smile always' they say. Put on a very enticing smile, relax your mind and body, be composed. Don't look agitated or perturbed, it will only make the interviewer feel you don't know what you are doing. So calm down as much as you can and be as composed and relaxed as you can be.

  • Sell yourself excellenty but don't be deceitful

It's ok to speak well of yourself but in the process of doing that, do not include lies because even if your life isn't detected now, it will surely affect you on the long run. Try as much as possible not to downgrade yourself, speak beautiful things about yourself, talk about what you can do and how you can help the organization, what they will lose if they lose you but make sure that in whatever you are saying, you do not add lies and deceit.

  • Communicate with experience

I think this is self explanatory, as you are giving your answers, back them up with examples, communicate as if you have experience, don't just talk like a novice, be explanatory enough and understandable. Let them be wowed with your level of experience.

With everything mentioned above, I can't overemphasize the role of modesty, we should make sure that in all things, modesty should be our culture.

I haven't actually been in any interview and that's because I have never worked physically in the outside world, all my jobs has always been online but it's great to take notes of these things coz I might be needing it in the future
