All work and no play...
Life is short and there is no time for the boring. I believe that you have to do what makes you happy.
All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. There is time to be serious and there is time to be light-hearted. I believe that the latter is very important. We have to have fun, especially in stressful situations.
We have might all have heard the phrase "work hard, play hard", but it is often not followed. However, I am a firm believer that many problems could have been avoided if we just had more fun.
There have been many studies that show that laughter reduces pain and helps us to get through difficult situations. When we are laughing and happy, our brain releases endorphin that makes us feel better. Even if you are in the worst pain imaginable, laughter still reduces it by 50%. If laughter is good for that much, I am sure you can see the benefits of having fun in your work environment.
I watched a movie of a man who is a senior executive at one of the biggest companies in the country. He's a very serious and hardworking person. He was always going about his business, often forgetting about his family.
Then he started golfing, he started spending time having fun with his children and in-laws and the real person came out. I am so proud of him; he spent many years getting to know the real him.
Fun is an essential part of life.
The one thing we learn from childhood and is ingrained in us is that we have to work hard, work smart and work with focus. But that's not all. We also have to have fun.
In fact, you can only be better at something if you have fun doing it. Work hard, have fun. Work smart, have fun. Work with focus, have fun. These things should go hand in hand. If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.
The one thing I have learnt as I grow older is that I don't have to do what everyone else is doing every minute of the day. I don't need to be where everyone else is. I don't need to be doing what everyone else is doing. I just need to do what makes me happy, what makes me feel good about myself and what gives me pleasure. This is important for all of us because we need to break out of the moulds we find ourselves in and do something different.
In conclusion
Happiness comes from within. The happiest people I know are those who are the most curious and open-minded. They love to find new things, new places, and new foods. They are curious about the world unlike those who are closed-minded and hate surprises. The happiest people I know love to travel and explore new places, cultures, and foods.
To cope with a stressful job, be serious at work but play when you're not working.
We all need some "fun" at work. That does not simply mean goofing off when others are looking but actually having some fun at work. Our job needs us to be committed, dedicated and 100% focused but we also need to unwind at the end of the day. Play makes us happy and happy people are more productive than people who dread going to work everyday.
