My Father Christmas days are over!. Some betrayals and disappointments hurt more than others, especially when it comes from a source you never expected it. I couldn’t write an article yesterday due to so many reasons. was as if all forces were working together to frustrate me. I tried to write something down several times but after one or two sentences I get tired and stop writing. After so many attempts I decided not to write for my head wasn’t in it at all, I couldn’t shake off the emotions weighing me down throughout the day. For months I’ve taken it upon myself to be an advocate of promoting anything Bitcoincash related. I’ve invited friends to noisecash and readcash, and for those who aren’t into writing, I invited them to SmartBCH. Since the people invited are mostly coursemates and hostel mates, I do lend them some SBCH to start their journey with. Sometimes before I lend them the SBCH I make a mental calculation to know the probability of them returning it depending on the outcome of the investment. To those, I don’t trust much I lend a little and ask them to buy more to invest, some trade with it and return while some don’t. I don’t feel sad because when lending them I already have it in mind that such might happen, moreover I borrowed them what I can afford to lose. Most times it’s 0.1BCH at most. You must be wondering if I’m smart for acting this way, not like I have much for me to be wasting it in such a way, sometimes I ask myself such that question too. “The end justifies the means,” they say. At least I’ve got someone to invest in SmartBCH. However, the habit of lending friends some money to invest with has ended yesterday with the behaviour of a friend I trusted. You might be asking “How does this lending works with the volatile market we have?”. first I must say I ask for no interest. If I lend you 0.5BCH I expect you to return 0.5BCH. Hardly have I disturbed anyone to return the money, I give them enough time and let them return it when they wish to. I’ve done this several times and it worked. In fact, some friends are still owing me till now and they don’t talk about it at all, but I know whenever it’s time to buy a new NFT or something, they will take about it. However, I have a book where everybody’s name is written. Also before lending out I make it clear to them that whatsoever I borrow them will be returned with no interest in satoshi and not dollars. Let’s say I lend Mr A 0.6BCH on the 1st of January and as of then 0.6bch was equivalent to $600 and 1 BCH is $1000. A few months later 1 BCH falls to $500, if he decides to pay the loan by that time he will have to pay me that same 0.6BCH which is now $300. That way they won’t feel cheated, if I insist on collecting the $600 I lend him, he will be returning 1.2 BCH. Things can go the other way too, I might lend someone 0.6BCH ($600) when BCH is $1000 and BCH rise to $2000. He will have to return 0.6BCH which is now ($1200). They all agree to this since if I don’t lend them, the BCH will be in my wallet with exactly that value. Towards the minting of GAC three friends who have been asking about NFT and SmartBCH came to me, myself, Gaftek, Gozie and GiddyBoy do talk about it so they decided to join. I was happy to see people showing interest in SmartBCH and I went ahead to teach them. We tried to buy BCH on Binance but we experienced some issues, at that same time Remitano had a temporary issue with Nigerian customers, so we couldn’t buy from them. Since they were all friends I’ve known for over 4 years and they’ve got experience in crypto before (bitcoin) I was assured that they will return my money and also understand the conditions I place (explained above). They all agreed and even insisted on me collecting interest, but I disagreed. On the 9th of march, BCH was below $300, and we started discussing how this is the perfect time to buy. A few minutes later one of them messaged me asking how much he owed me. I told him (in satoshi) and he asked me to give him the Present value in dollars, which I did. I waited for him to send it to me but he didn’t. I never bothered him. I assumed that after buying he decided to trade with it, for we all do talk about our SmartBCH investments together. Yesterday, I received a transaction notification from my bitcoin.com app. I checked the wallet and noticed it was the one I sent aside for those I lend SBCH or BCH. To my surprise, the amount sent was lower than what I lent out to any of them. I checked Whatsapp and saw the message from one of them. He said that’s the amount he owed me. I reminded him of our agreement and he said he remembers, then tagged my message on the 9th of march saying the amount in dollars. Apparently, he bought BCH on the 9th of march but seeing that the value is increasing he decided to cheat. I thought it was a joke because he was the last person I’d expect to do such. He insisted that he has paid the amount he owed which was over 0.05 lower than what I sent to him. I sent a voice note to him stating my surprise and disappointment but on second thought I deleted it and replied to him “Thanks for repaying me this way”. He kept on sending comrade stickers (Nigerians here will understand) which pissed me off but I kept my cool. I blocked his number but a few minutes later I received another notification that he has paid the balance. I wondered what made him change his mind but I didn’t ask, nor did I reply to all his text messages. I was sad and moody all through the day because it came from the most unlikely source, if it were to be someone else I wouldn’t have been affected that much. I got a call from another friend in the evening and he said the guy called him and explained to him, that he was the one that convinced him to send the balance. He said he was shocked to hear him do such to me despite the fact that he was there when we made the deal and the most annoying part was, the value as at when I borrowed him the money was even higher than what it was yesterday. I laugh and asked him not to worry, but yesterday my “father Christmas” mood was buried. Never will I trust someone like that again, lending out sBCH or Bch is a thing of the past though I won’t stop trying to bring people to SmartBCH. But the days of being foolish are over!!! It's actually better to maintain your stance, or else you'll be taken for a fool.
Exactly! I've learnt my lessons.
I don’t understand why the default setting of a person should be to cheat. Seriously, this is what we keep dealing with in this country. Everyone tries to make gains at the expense of sucking another person dry. The behavior from your friend isn’t acceptable at all. It is sad really. Just keep doing what you do. Just so you know, you must borrow me SBCH whenever I ask you by fire by force. Hahaha. Anyways, take care.
🤣🤣. A friend in need is a friend indeed ..by force 🤣🤣
Right on point. Haha. 😂
lol... you can bet i will.
Don't be upset dear. I know it’s odd.
You really handled the situation with alot of maturity... He'd definitely feel ashamed
Humans! Your silence and muteness really pierce his mind that he paid the remaining balance. Things like this happen often, people taking advantage of someone's kindness. Lesson learnt🙅
People tend to misuse any opportunity they are given, the person you trusted the most might be the one who would make you angry and stop being the person you were before just try to be careful in lending out things to people and don’t put hope in it.
Some people are just so wicked with their selfish acts. When you make yourself available coz you want progress for people around you they think you don't know what you doing. Imagine someone who is hungry and you called him to join you in eating your food and the person holds your hands for you, not to eat. Funny and at the same time not funny, that's life for you, just do the best you can in helping people ......
I wouldn't say I am surprised by what happened, the average Nigerian is always looking for ways to pull a fast way on the next person and make some profits off it. You are really a good person for doing these things to help out your friends, but we both know a lot of people will take it for granted. Lord knows I will never try something like that, I have seen pepper in the hands of the so-called friends
I've learnt my lessons too. Never will i do such again.
Actually there are cases that you're helping someone but at the end they will give disappointment to you as an exchange.
Well, I wouldn't exactly say it was act of foolishness, you were helping out, and while some might take it for granted, there are those who don't, and your "act of foolishness" has been a breakthrough for them, and they are really grateful for it.
I'm really trying to guess who that person might be. People like this kind of person makes kind people reconsider their kindness.
Na person wey i know say fit do such, but i still believe say he no fit do am for me. But i guess a leopard can never change its skin.
