Challenges of being a student in the present day.
When unforeseen circumstances arises, as human we tend to find ways to adjust to it. The raging pandemic has brought about various changes to the system of learning. In this article i'm going to focus on the challenges students in Nigeria faced or are facing currently. Learning management system (LMS) was introduced as an alternative mode of learning, but this came with it problems for students in the country. Whether your phone is 4G or 5G does not matter in some area/part of the country. For students living in such areas, attending online lectures and writing test becomes something quite difficult for them. Best solution for students like this is to move to an area with good internet service.
**Power supply** It's so disheartening to see that we still have the issues of unstable power supply in the country in the year 2021. There are some part of the country that have no access to Electricity, while some have but only get to enjoy it once in a blue moon. Devices like phones and laptops are essential for the online classes. And these devices requires constant Charging. What then do students living in such areas do?. Most end up getting Power banks to take around, but we all know how unreliable it is. Moreover it also requires constant charging. Solution- Get a Generator but another issue of getting Petrol will arise. **Data** This might look minor but it is a big deal to many. The network service providers sell Data at ridiculous rates. Most students after having one or two Zoom classes realise that the $2 worth data they bought is gone. Though there are some network service providers with mouth watering Data plans but that is where the party ends. After getting the Data,to use it becomes another problem. You have to climb the roof top or stand on a toe with your hands inclined at a ridiculous angle with your phone in your outstretched hands. **Communication** Imagine a lecturer explaining a calculation course online, how easy is it?. In physical classes , sometimes it takes a lot of work for lecturers to pass information acrosss to students. It is now harder foe them to explain with a camera mounted on a tripod. Having to unmute mics at interval before talking also serves as an hindrance to smooth communication, especially when so many students are trying to talk at the same time.
**Distraction** While lecture is going on, one can get easily distracted since the lecturer isn't there physically to caution one. We've since cases where students who don't know that their mics are on talk to someone else while lecture is ongoing. Or students joining the class all for the sake of attendance and leaving the phone till the class ends. **No Device to use** This might seem impossible but believe me we have students in this country without Phones or laptop to access the school site or the online platforms. Though some schools make provision for phone loans or use of the School library during this period. The stress of going through this can be hard on the students. **Conclusion** To all students our there- "well done". Continue to persevere and work add, someday all these will be over. But a free advice, while you are in school try to find your part, try to find something you can be doing to bring in constant income. Though it might not be much, push on and don't relent. Most importantly discover yourself while still in school. In case you know anybody studying presently, just know that it's a lot of work. You have listed good points to know about the problem students are facing. In our generation, we don't have the luxury of the internet so we have to scour the library, ask people even lots of people just to get the right information not to mention the expenses you will have to incur. By late 1990s early 2000s, internet cafes/computer shops started to proliferate but it was way more expensive then. We are charged 60 and up per hour for internet that is like using data nowadays. We don't have smartphones then. These were just a few of the things that some students face before. It is a different world now where we think technology is the solution but we still have struggles with it. No matter, it is your attitude towards overcoming problems and coming up with solutions that will make you succeed.
We are lucky to have access to internet in our own generation. You're right "it's our attitude that matters"

It's so sad we all Experience this as students but we have no choice than to do all of these if at all we want good grades out of the college. I also agree with you that students needs to find something to bring income to them. They just can't rely on their parents for everything. While also in school, we must find our purpose so that when we leave, it will be a part of us.

Every where is the same situation bro as we are low GDP rated country so always there and here available problem.. Infect student has phone but they do not like to attend online class but use phone to play game and etc which is another problem .. Infect corona is problem

Well you nailed it. Indeed innocent student like is full of problems and limitations. Yeah internet or data problem is big problem how to manage it. Or how to make lame excuses to stisfy parents to get money for internet packages. But other hand student life is most chill tenure of life. You missed a point hostel life you should mession it also lol :)

Reason why most students stop studying are because of this problems also a cause for students to end their lives, Even me, a student who has a decent phone and regular allowance for data, had a hard time to cope to this type of learning, some of my friends who is actually good had to stop because they chose to work, I feel bad for them. This pandemic really ruined most of the students dreams To all the students out there who never stopped despite of this problems, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! I HOPE YOU STRUGGLES BE PAID SOON.

Indeed. These are the challenges that the students are facing right now aside from the lessons that they are going to learn. In this time, the perseverance of the students are being measured. For me, having face-to-face class is way better than online class. It is better if there is someone who can discuss the lesson than just browsing it in the internet. And from my own opinion and what I have observed, the learnings of the students are not reliable, because some students will only copy pasted their answers on the internet without understanding it.

Internet services are also a problem here in the Philippines. A lot of students couldn't cope up with the new norms of teaching and decided to quit studying.

Just the same in Philippines 😕, I know a lot of students who's really having a hard time because of that. Some can take it but some had to stop because they can't afford a smartphone. It's just sad but what choice do they have right. 😕

data to go online classes 😔 I'm tired Ioad again and again cause we cannot afford internet in the house 😅 and having badtrip when the data is slow and i cannot follow the discussion. It feels me so angry 😅

Your situation is so similar to that of students in Venezuela. I stopped studying a long time ago;). But my son who is about to enter his last year of High School faces these problems you've mentioned every day. Here, there have only been online classes since the pandemic began. This will surely be a huge delay in the education of the new generations because many will not be able to overcome the obstacles. Internet here in the Philippines is really sucks. But to those students who really want to graduates this problems is not a hendrance. They still fight even though they are so much pissed off.

How about here in the Philippines? Many students commit suicides because of the plessure that they feel on their studies. 🤦🏻♀️ Because some teachers did not even think about their students health and condition. They just always give and give some activities and sometimes they also rush it. Plus, the internet connection is not stable 🤦🏻♀️

It is worse in my country 🤣 But here in HK.. Parents pressure usually the cause of suicide for some students
