Gameweek 37: Champions league football isn't for Everyone
With solemn music playing in the background the newscaster took centre stage, paper in hand ready to kick start the programme. This will be his last for the season. What an emotional night it was for him. He hummed the song playing from the stereo - Goodbye by Celine Dion and took a final look at the screen. The video of the Everton fans celebrating was showing, a perfect scene to set the tone for Gameweek 37 review.
Gameweek 37 can be divided into 3 different categories
-Who will be the champion & Top 4 battle
-Dead rubber matches
-Relegation battle
The Champions battle
The battle between Liverpool and Manchester City is still on. Man city slipped in their quest to get the Crown, Jarrod Bowen scored two first-half goals to dent city’s hope but in the second half, Pep’s boy staged a resurgence. Goals from Grealish and an own goal set the tempo for the final minutes of the match. Riyad Mahrez was given the perfect opportunity to complete the comeback but he was not able to beat Fabianski from the penalty spot. Taking them 4 points above Liverpool albeit a game in hand for the latter.
Liverpool is still on course to win 4 trophies this season and they were able to overcome an early scare from Southampton. The match ended 2-1 in favour of Liverpool and they are now one point away from Man City going into the final game of the season. Can they get the Domestic treble ahead of the Champions League final? We shall see on Sunday.
The top 4 is shaping
We all thought Arsenal are finally back. The exciting squad they have, deserve a taste of champions league football but the hunger they have pales when compared to Tottenham. With Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle, Chelsea automatically gets a spot in the Top 4 and Arsenal are condemned to 5th position, behind Tottenham who won 1-0 against Burnley a day before.
Mathematically, Arsenal can still make the Top 4 but their destiny is no longer in their hands. They will need Tottenham to do them a favour of losing. Since Everton escaped the relegation spot, Arsenal will be playing an Everton side not fighting to survive. A draw by Tottenham spells doom for Arsenal. They have to win with at least 16 goals to snatch the 4th position from Tottenham.
Dead Rubber matches
So many matches during the week were played for bragging rights and not for any significant change in position on the Table. Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace which ended in a draw was not so entertaining since both clubs have nothing to lose. Wolves vs Norwich was another dead rubber match. Norwich are already destined for demotion to Division 2 and a win wouldn’t have changed anything and for Wolves, getting into 7th position (Conference league) is also impossible.
West ham can still clinch the final Europa slot from Man U and in the process push them to the 7th position (Conference League). Gameweek 38 will be the decider.
Relegation Battle
The highlight of this round is the comeback by Frank Lampard’s men. Nine months from now don’t be surprised if hospitals in Merseyside record a lot of childbirth. So was the excitement yesterday. Everton did the unthinkable, coming from two goals down to win 3-2. The fans stormed the field, the Gaffer kept punching the air, the players were in tears and the headlines says “Everton is going nowhere”
The battle is now between Burnley and Leeds United. Burnley has their goalkeeper Pope to thank for keeping their hope of survival alive. He made so many saves against Aston villa. They will have to overcome the in-form Newcastle and hope Leeds falls short against Brentford.
CLub1BCH Fantasy League
This is the best part. The club1bch fantasy league is about to end. This exciting league has brought a lot of intelligent minds in the Crypto world together. With over 100 managers battling for the Top spot, it’s been a great Journey.
Bar an upset in the final Gameweek, Damola Abodurin will be the King of Managers. His ascendance into the first position has been nothing but Epic. He faced great challenges from other Top managers and overcame them all. Another name worthy of being mentioned is Arthur Boys. After a slow start, he came up the rank to take the second spot.
If there’s anything like an MVP for this competition, it will be Portugal XI . He has been consistently occupying the Top 3 spot from week 1 to week 37. Big respect man.
The Top 10 is filled with some other familiar faces like @George_Dee , FC Mckane, @Aimure and more. Any of them can still go up in the log or down.
