Foundation matters
For some time now I've been having symptoms of fever but I didn't pay much attention to it, work needed to be done. "Health is wealth," they say but good food and healthy living can't be achieved without money. The best thing to do is to work and also work at remaining healthy. When the signs of sickness show, quickly do something about it. A Yoruba adage says "ati kekere la tin peka iroko", which means " we destroy an iroko's (tree) root right when it's still young".
Thinking about what I could have done when the signs were showing to avoid it escalating to what it is today got me thinking about the term foundation. If you're into any construction-related course one of the first classes you have will be on foundation.
I can remember vividly, how my lecturer digressed from explaining construction foundations to talking about foundations in other fields. He went as far as explaining the one ladies use on their faces before applying other things.
A solid foundation is important and necessary in every aspect of our lives, even in sports. Some of the best players were and are known for their great foundations and basics, the training they received from the academy till when they get to the first team. Sometimes when the foundation is being laid, it looks meaningless and unnecessary but in the distant future, one will appreciate it.
Everything in life has a beginning and this is very important. For a child, it's what will shape his life that's why the first few years of a child’s life are important. In everything we do we need to start well and create a solid foundation so that what you're building won't collapse overnight. The home is the first school of a child. The love, care and lessons the parents give will help in moulding the child's life. If the foundation isn't good, it will take a lot to change such child.
Some things must be given priority in the first years of a child's life and in most homes the mother plays the role. It was what a child has learnt from home that will help him make good decisions when society try to mislead the child.
From the foundation with love and care, you can build an incredible building. Do things right, stay true and you will have no regrets.
At work or wherever you find yourself, how you start matters a lot. First impression lasts. The way you act and relate with others in your first few days at work will determine how they will welcome you and how your stay at work will be. It's better to have friends in a new environment than to gather enemies.
For students, they need to start setting the foundation from the first day of resumption, from their first year result. How strong you start will help you end well and make things easier for you.
