Final Lesson
The media and fans are praising the all-conquering Real Madrid. I’m also happy for their victory. For the first time in my life, I supported Real Madrid. I believe they also deserve to win the trophy because of the teams they eliminated on their way to the final. They are the better evil to me. Liverpool is a big team in Europe and if they win one more UCL title they will have more bragging rights which will be a painful one for other clubs.
The outcome of the man or my reasons for supporting Madrid yesterday isn’t the main reason that birth this Article. I believe what happens in football sometimes is a reflection of how life is. Sometimes a player trains well or a team trains well and they conquered everyone or every team. And sometimes some clubs win without putting much effort into it. Some players train well but get injured a few days to the showdown - hard luck they say. It also happens in life (in general), working hard pays, but sometimes a bit of luck matters. Anything can happen in the blink of an eye. Life is unpredictable. As the popular movie production company “Wale Adenuga” love saying “We are pencils in the hands of the creator.
Another lesson I learnt from two Uefa champions league final matches played in the last 10 days (Male and Female) is that people are quick to throw you under the bus.
The women (UWCL Runners up)
Let me start with the Barcelona women. These ladies won 30 la Liga matches and won all. Drawing or losing none. In the Copa del Rey (which they won 6-1 today ) they’ve been nothing short of spectacular. In the champions league, they trampled on everyone they played till the second leg semi-final match at Wolfsburg and final against Lyon which they lost.
The media and public were quick to forget their achievement after the UCL final. They were criticized and called “Lucky”. Though they’ve regained a little praise back with their victory over Real Madrid in the Copa semis and today’s final, the backlash they receive is still fresh.
This shows that people only praise you when you are doing good. Do good for 364 days in a year and make a mistake for just a day and see how they will roast you.
The Men UCL (Runners up)
Liverpool on the other hand competed on all fronts till the final day. Though they didn’t get the quadruple I believe they should be given their flowers. They played 63 games this season and lost 4. Though the most important match is the final, we can’t help but applaud them for what they achieved this season. Till the last day of the season, they battled with Man city for the EPL. Lost the UCL final despite putting up a great performance and winning 2 trophies.
Do they deserve the bants? I can’t say because football is a game where a team with no UCL title mocks 3 times winner. Another question is “will this season be remembered as a good for them?”. Personally, I will say this season is a great one for them, but I know many will disagree. Antonio Conte once said “A coach is as good as his last game”
Other lessons
The world only remembers the final match. Always try to give your best till the end. Victory lies after the finish line, not before the finish line.
Never allow the ovation to deceive you. Those who clap for you today can turn against you tomorrow.
Don’t try to please people. Do things that make you happy, so that when you lose, you might lose the medal and money but the happiness cannot be taken away from you.
Finally, life is unpredictable. Anything can happen at any minute. You can be at the Top today and meet yourself at the bottom tomorrow, and vice versa. But anytime you get to the Top, try to touch as much life as possible, for what you do will be your Legacy.
Thanks for Reading! ⚽️💚⚽️
Honestly, the only reason I had wanted Liverpool to win was because it would have been the icing on their cake of a season. Too bad it didn't happen. Congratulations to Real Madrid, I must commend them for their hardwork to absorb the pressure from Liverpool most of the game.
