The new Disney robot blinks, breathes and imitates human facial expressions
Despite not being covered in skin at the moment, the Disney research robot looks impressive, especially its ability to mimic the movements of a person's facial muscles.
According to some, frightening, this machine has a sensor located in the chest that warns it when someone tries to interact with it, and the sensor has a built-in program of "levels of curiosity" that works close to communication. With subtle facial movements, the robot imitates breathing all the time, which makes it even more realistic.
According to the Walt Disney Imaging Engineering newspaper, robotics scientists from the University of Illinois and the California Institute of Technology also provided assistance.
The research team paid the most attention to the most realistic view of the robot and its interactivity, because most humanoid robots focus their gaze on the human face and keep it there all the time, which humans do not do during communication.
Scientists used principles in the construction of robots that animators use during the revival of cartoon characters: the use of "arcs", that the movement follows a curved line, "pull", which means that different parts move at different speeds, accelerating and slowing movements at the beginning and end.
However, there are still elements that the robot cannot completely imitate, first of all, the gaze because it still looks like it is looking through its interlocutor because both of its eyes are moving in parallel. To solve this, the constructors adjusted his eyes to make fast, lightning movements to create the illusion that both eyes were looking at the interlocutor.
It's not hard to imagine how Disney could use robots like this in its theme parks. The company's research department has been working on researching humanoid robots for several years, and now all they have to do is put "skin" on a new machine.
Walt Disney was a role model for many. He was an idol of entire generations, not only in America, but all over the world. Thousands of children grew up watching his animated films. Bewitched by the genius of this eternal creative, it seems that people easily ignored the fact that Walt Disney himself was an ordinary man after all. So - mortal.
The death of Walt Disney marked the birth of one of the greatest urban legends ever created. Namely, due to a strange combination of circumstances and rumors, the belief was adopted that the great Disney is just frozen and will be frozen when science finds a cure for cancer.
