Ego vs Pride

Most of us were sometimes confused and having difficulties in explaining and understanding the difference between EGO and PRIDE. Some were also startled and stuttered when asking to differentiate these two words, that is why this post will focus on the few differences between EGO and PRIDE.

EGO and PRIDE have very close meanings and they're interrelated yet both are totally different.

EGO is a sense of self-importance. Besides, it is the feeling of being superior and comparing oneself to others which are giving the idea of “I am superior to others”. Some say that Ego is a disease because it can ruin one life but many people think of the ego as self-respect. It is definitely true but not all the time because most of the time it often leads to arrogance.

An example of this would be a basketball player who is taking credit for all their victories rather than crediting it to the team effort. Ego hinders positive relationships with others because of being superior or arrogant. Besides, a big ego can also be harmful and destructive to one’s relationship with others because nobody wants to be around a person who only thinks of himself.

PRIDE is a sense of self-satisfaction. It is accepting and understanding that everybody has uniqueness and there is no race or competition, which is giving the idea that nobody is higher than anyone else, nor is anyone lowers than anyone else.

Pride is also a sense of achievement that is healthy and good for a person and it encourages himself to always strive to do and to be better. Besides, it is a feeling of joy and accomplishment that tends to bring humbleness and modesty to a person.

To make it simple and clear to everyone, EGO is related to self-importance and self-admiration which can turn to arrogance whereas PRIDE is related to self-satisfaction which gives humbleness and modesty.
