A cat is a good parent. A mother cat licks her kittens as soon as they are born. This is how she cleans and dries her kittens. It is also a way of keeping her kitten's fur smooth. The mother cat nurses them and she watches over them all day. If she thinks her kittens are not safe, she transfers them to another place. She picks them up gently by the skin on the back of their necks. Then she carriers them one by one to a safer place.
