Miracle on a train.
Mr. Peters couldn’t hold his joy at the news he got from his wife, he quickly rushed home into the house from the garden to take his phone to call his mother who had put so much pressure on his wife for not conceiving a year after marriage.
He screamed in excitement, "mama, my wife is pregnant". The news went around the family members and they started calling him to congratulate him but Mr. Peters was angry because it was supposed to be secret but you can’t blame Mr. Peters since he got married late and he was anxious to have his child.
The Peters families were rich and ready to do anything to raise their child; Mrs. Peters was flown abroad immediately to start her antenatal care. She settled in fine and started going for her antenatal, the pregnancy was five months when the doctors noticed something strange. They contacted Mr. Peters and informed him that they will be doing a series of tests for his wife due to the signs they saw with pregnancy.
He was scared and restless that he had to book a flight immediately to the UK; he met his wife and assured her nothing was wrong. They fixed a date for the appointment and went as planned; Mr. Peters was restless all through the process and his fears increased when he was called for the results later that evening. He was heartbroken at the news that one of the twins his wife was carrying had Down syndrome, he went home sad after the meeting with the doctor.
He told his wife everything and she wept bitterly, Mr. Peters told his mom about it and she said there was an herb to correct it. He didn’t hesitate to jump on a plane the third day after he spoke with his mother, the wife was against it but Mr. Peter believed so much in his mother. They returned and did so much that cost them a lot of money but everything was a total waste of time, effort, and money.
They ran the test again in Nigeria but it was the same result, they gave up when the doctors warn them against taking contents that can harm the babies. Mrs. Peters wasn’t happy about it, she wept whenever she thought about her child having Down syndrome.
The eighth month reached and she fell into labor two weeks before the expected date, she was rushed to the hospital and had a successful delivery.
It was a boy and a girl; it was the female who had Down syndrome, people celebrated with them and they took the child’s condition off their minds, things returned to normal after the children naming ceremony. The kids started growing and Mr. Peter started paying more attention to the male child, he believed that the female child will spend the rest of her life with them because of her Down syndrome.
Mrs. Peters wasn’t happy about it and always reminded her husband of the promises he made about the children but the discussion always ended in a heated argument.
The kids got ripe for school, Elvis was taken to one of the biggest schools in the state while Evelyn was at home and this stole the peace away in the family, their mother would quarrel with Mr. Peter about it always.
After many troubles, he agreed to put her in one school in the neighborhood. Evelyn was a pretty girl, full of life and energy. She was smart and always eager to step outside the outside since it is not something she did often.
The day came and she was taken out to be enrolled in a school, her mom was very happy about it. They arrived at the school and after lots of discussions, she was rejected. Mrs. Peter was angry and she stormed out of the headmaster’s office, her eyes were filled with so many tears as she grabbed her daughter and approached the gate.
