Yesterday was awesome even though the stress wasn't something I cherish but it was for the greater good and I am glad that everything went as planned. Initially, I thought I would be able to skip the event but I know my mom will never forgive me for that since I missed two of her previous ordination.
I was brought up in Cherubim and Seraphim but I backed out because I felt their doctrine was mainly for aged people, I got tired of the doctrine and quit over 10 years ago so whenever I attend their program now, it brings back lots of memories of my teenage days in the church.
I left home for the event around 1 pm thinking that I should be home by 5 pm but the program was still on by 7 pm and those are part of the things that made me tired of their doctrine. Despite the delay, I enjoyed the music and the sermon at the event, those are the things I usually don't want to miss in their service.
The preacher took a lot of time teaching us about the importance of giving, not just anyhow kind of giving but giving like a blind person.
I was confused at first because I didn't understand what he meant by giving to people like a blind person, I still didn't understand until he gave some illustrations.
He said in 2009 that he went to the hospital for a checkup, he was waiting for his turn to see the doctor when he heard someone crying while talking on the phone. He asked who was crying and the man walked over to his place, he enquired what happened and he was told that the man's wife has been in labor for nine days.
The doctors told him to go deposit $600 for the operation because the woman already had complications while she was struggling to have the child, the husband has tried his best but couldn't raise the money.
The pastor told the man to take him to the doctor, when he confirmed everything from the doctor he paid the money for the surgery. He left the hospital after the payment because he didn't have enough to do his check up anymore, even his assistant felt reluctant to make the transfer because he knew that after the transfer they will be left with little money that won't be enough for their upkeep.
They left the hospital and while he was going home, he said he heard the voice of the Lord saying that he will reward him bountifully. He replied that "I didn't do it for the reward, I just couldn't bear the pain the woman was facing in her ward".
His birthday was coming up a few days after what happened at the hospital, he told his members and family that he won't be celebrating it because he needed money for other important things and everyone felt it was unusual but things went differently for him that day. On his birthday, the church did a surprise birthday for him.
He got a gift in cash of over a million naira and a car from another person, he got numerous gifts, and when he went to the altar to appreciate God, he heard the voice again that "I have fulfilled my promise" and since that day, he concluded that there is nothing too big to give to support people.
A few months after, the electricity workers came to disconnect the church light because they didn't pay for the previous month. The team leader demanded that he wanted to see the pastor and he made a statement that they should close the church if the business is not working out because they are always struggling to pay their electricity bills.
They helped the pastor out to meet the team leader, the team leader happened to be the man the pastor helped at the hospital. It wasn't the first time he said they should close the church if they can't afford the electricity bill but he fell on his knee immediately and begged the pastor. The pastor he was begging for didn't see him because he is a blind man, the man was shocked and told them to reconnect the light. He said he would start taking care of the electricity bill but the pastor refused, he said if he could see he wouldn't have helped the man that day because he always says rubbish about the church whenever he comes around but the pastor can't see him.
Helping people like you are blind would make you overlook everything they might have done to you. It would make you help people without restriction or hesitation and that kind of help attracts great reward from God.
Helping others without expecting anything in return or even remaining anonymous to the people you have helped is a very good thing in the sight of God.
The message touched my heart and I saw the need for people to help others without hesitations when they have the opportunity to do so.
I left the church around past seven after the ordination.
I was exhausted wished I could teleport home but to God be the glory, the road was free.
It's been a while since I went out at night and I saw the beauty of Lagos at its peak again, you might want to feel the beauty but only Lagosians can relate.
I crashed on the bed after showering and didn't wake up until daybreak, I just got time to write this after Monday's hustle and bustle.
I hope you all had a great Monday? Wishing you all a beautiful night's rest...
Helping others also help us back in return. I have seen practicing gratitude always help us like some sort of boomerang :)
