Managing your emotions
Emotional intelligence can be described as the ability and capacity to be able to manage our emotional feelings as it related to ourselves and people around us. It includes understanding and knowing our feelings or how we feel and the capacity to manage then. We all have emotions as human beings, it's part of what makes us human. Compassion, sadness, fear etc are all part of emotions people feels almost every day of their lives. Human emotions are based on our human nature and situations. Feelings such as surprise, ecstasy, grief, pain, fear, sorrow, abandonment, anxiety, stress, anguish, embarrassment, happiness etc. The capacity to manage each and every one of these is called emotional intelligence. To be considered yourself emotional intelligent, then you must be able to manage and contain your emotional feelings listed above. You must be able to manage your fear, your stress, anguish etc. Then you can be considered emotional intelligent if you can be able to contain and manage your emotions. Sometimes a person may be intelligent in books, but may lack emotional intelligence. Such may start shaking at the moment of fear situation.
While some of these emotions may be bad, not all are toxic or evil. However there are toxic, poisonous and destructive emotions such as untamed anger, malice, envy, bitterness, hatred etc. If these kind of emotions are not properly managed by their bearer, it may leads to more disastrous situations. Since emotional intelligence deals with how we can manage our emotions and relate better with others. Here are some steps to take in order to be emotionally balanced.
1. SELF EXPRESSION AND EMPATHY.
When dealing with emotions like anger, anguish or stress over another person, we can get rid of such emotional imbalance by trying to have empathy towards the person you are directing the emotions to. Sometimes we get angry emotions over people because we don't understand them or how they feel. Another step to take in balancing your emotions is through self expression, you should always find an appropriate way and time to politely express your feelings instead of keeping it all to yourself.
2. SELF MOTIVATION.
A good way to manage our emotions is through motivating your own self. Regardless of the situation or circumstance, rather than being depressed, moody, sad, aggressive, try to encourage yourself and maintain a stable temper. Don't be bothered with things that override your emotions. Don't let the situation influence in a very much way your emotions such as temper.
3. SELF CONTROL OR DISCIPLINE.
You can regulate your emotions by putting it under check so that it does not take over you or consume you. Emotions such as anger, sadness, sorrow etc can be dealed with by self control. Discipline yourself to get rid of emotions that may be harmful or detrimental to your well being.
Emotions shouldn't control us but we should be able to tame and manage them for . Desires that are bad should be tamed so as to not leads to destruction.
I always said to myself "Aka don't let your emotions come out, it's the silent killer " It's like a big war between me and my hypothalamus.
