Filipinos are well known for having many superstitious beliefs, we have a long history of colonization that strongly influence our belief depending on the culture and tradition of the people who colonize our country, this results in the extent of many superstitions that local take it seriously, pass down centuries from family to family, we are colonized by Hindu, Buddhist, Spaniards, Japanese that led to a very interesting diverse mix of beliefs

But from time to time, There are moments that I don't believe and cross the line taking things out from the things we believe that are strongly prohibited, here is the list of superstitious beliefs that I don't, and I slowly doubt led to disbelief.

  • Turn your plate when someone leaves in the middle of a meal

My family taught me when sitting at the dining table for a meal and someone leaves first before the other part of the family finished eating, everyone should turn their plates on the table to make sure that the person who leaves can have a safe journey, like duhhhh, our oldies still believe on that belief but me and my mother don't, especially we are so busy every morning, we sometimes need to left early to make sure we can arrive in time, we don't do this such things already til we forgot this kind of belief in our mind.

  • For every celebration, we need to serve pancit cantoon, especially on birthdays

Before when I was a kid I always hear my grandmother reassuring to have pancit in our meals, to assure a long life to the celebrant because pancit gives long life to the celebrant, every gathering back then, pancit is always present but nowadays, yes we still prepare pancit in our birthday not because of the said belief but because its cheap and many people can consume it hahahaha

  • Blame the missing thing on elemental entities

Haha what a funny belief to think about, not today, but back then there are assumptions that when an item in the house goes missing and reappears in another place of the house, this is caused by elemental entities whos playful enough to play with your mentality, especially dawende, dawende are elves Filipino version, they are mischievous and playful, these little creatures are believed to be mostly harmless and once you see one, they will grant your any wish, it is just they are playful to the person they always see. hahhah but not today, my mother always scold me for being irresponsible once I lost some things we needed in the house because when we use it we don't put it back to the place where we get it hahha

Ah, sometimes it makes me think who the hell made this stupid superstitious beliefs, lol. Because they are just baseless made up stories. Some are true in relation to science but majority of them are just baseless.

If you believe in cosmic science it may have a minimal effect like solar eclipse are not supposed to watch in naked eyes as the rays are very harmful while in lunar they aren't . But losing a child due to it, it's not possible. It can cause some imbalance in human body as the metal, air, light pressure of the Earth is disturbed during eclipse, it's a deep topic. But it has not the power to damage life like that. I think people added more spices and salt in it to avoid any kind of imbalance in pregnant womens. Though the cases of people being affected by it is very minimal as our body is smart enough to adapt environment changes but in case of pregnant womens we just want to be extra careful.
