I just finished watching the Korean drama series titled "Graceful Family", which is about a wealthy family who owns a conglomerate business called MC Group of companies. It's not just a story of a typical family but they have a complex story with so many issues.
In one of the scenes in the drama, Mr. Mo, the son of the founder of MC Group and the current president of the company, told one of his sons that,
"In this day and age, Money means power. Once you have that power, there's nothing you can't do."
And I couldn't agree more with his statement.
Those who have more money tend to have more power in this world. They can do whatever they want and buy whatever their heart desires. Sometimes, those people who have money can even twist things and make everything go in their favor even if it's already inhumane.
They can hide their weaknesses and mistakes with their money and pay other people to conceal their faults. When they commit something unlawful, they can turn the truth upside down and get away with it by paying for it with their money.
And those people who are powerless and have nothing will be the ones to pay for the things they didn't even do or will be torn to do something against their will just for the sake of these rich people.
When you are penniless, people will manage to look down on you, mock you, and belittle you, and think that you are unworthy to live in this world.
It is true that money means power. But just like what Ben Parker said,
"With great power comes great responsibility."
So if you have so much money, you should also be responsible for this power. You should help bring the gap between the rich and poor closer so no one would be above or below the other. You should use it reasonably to obtain world peace and order and not use it to take advantage of other people, especially those who are powerless in society.
Others say that "Money changes people." But I think otherwise. It is just an amplifier of who we really are. Money brings out our real selves. Money exposes our thinking and character.
While there are some wealthy individuals who abuse their power by turning the truth upside down and taking advantage of the poor and powerless to acquire more wealth and to conceal their wrongdoings, there are still some rich people who use their power for charity and favorable actions. They spend their money and share their wealth in helping those people who need it most.
Money is just a tool and it is up to us how we are going to use it. We can use it to do good deeds or use it for evil doings. However we decide to use this tool, may we choose to use it for the greater good.
Money indeed change people, money can bring power and power indirectly changes people which is really not a good thing. It's nice to be humble no matter the wealth you have
