Well, welcome to another episode of my Freelance Writing Job hunting journey.
I think you already know that I'm currently looking for freelance writing jobs out there as I am pressured to look for work. Actually, I'm no longer pressured but I'm now more motivated and determined to really look for a full-time writing job because I want to take advantage of the free time I have and to have an additional source of income.
Having a lot of goals and dreams that I want to achieve, I think it is just right to grab every opportunity that I could get so that I can have different side hustles and I can easily save up money that I will need to accomplish my desires in life.
And just like what I have shared in "Rejections are a Learning Experience", I have already applied to different writing jobs posted in a Facebook group dedicated to Freelance Writers in the Philippines. And just like any other aspiring freelance content writer applicant out there, I am not an exemption to experiencing getting rejected and turned down due to the fact that I only have little paid experience in different writing positions.
But because I believe that I will only have experience if I try something for the first time, I was courageous enough to send an application to those different writing jobs even if I have little knowledge about them. I also think that I'm a fast learner so I thought I could figure things out.
Applying as an Alt-Text Writer:
After sending my resume and writing portfolio, the HR manager immediately sent me the initial screening process for the job. I first had to take an online IQ test provided to determine my cognitive abilities and intellectual level. After I passed the exam, the employer already gave me the last test that I need to pass, which is related to Alt-Text writing.
To be honest, I didn't have any idea about what Alt-text writing is so I consulted Google and I found out that it is writing a short description of an image, which makes sense when the image won't load or can't be viewed for certain reasons.
And after I found out about it, I immediately wrote alternative texts for the 3 images provided and sent them back to the employer.
Being new to this kind of writing, I already assumed that I failed the test and I was right. Well, I wasn't disappointed with the result of my test because I gained additional knowledge when it comes to Alt-text writing.
Applying as a Summary Content Writer:
When I was also trying to look for a freelance writing job last 2020, I also applied for a summary content writing job where I have to watch an 8-minute or more YouTube video and try to make a summary of the important points or topics that the vlogger talked about.
So when I saw the job ad, I immediately composed a message with my resume and writing portfolio, and sent the e-mail to the address provided. The next morning, I received a call from the HR manager and asked if I was available for the online interview, and I said yes.
The interview went well but I still had to take the test to determine if I was really fit for the job role. So the employer sent me the link to the YouTube video that I need to write a summary of, and he was kind enough to provide samples and guide to make a good summary.
After watching the guide and reading the samples, I watched the video and tried to write a summary of it. I followed the format provided and sent my work to the editors. The employer said the editors will contact me if I passed and I haven't received a message from them so I guess I didn't make it to the final test. Well, I also don't feel bad about my work being rejected as it's just a confirmation that I still have a lot of improvements to do.
Aside from these two writing jobs, I also applied for a Senior Web Content Writer position. I attended the virtual interview and there I realized that I don't know much yet about web content writing, especially since I don't have a lot of experience yet with writing SEO content. I am also waiting for the result of my application as a Buyer's Guide Writer but I don't want to keep my hopes high.
As of the moment, I'm working as a Freelance Writer for my former client. It's on a per-project basis so my earnings still depend on the number of tasks I receive from her. But it's still better than nothing as it's still additional income.
Well, it's a good thing that there's still read.cash where I can write about anything I want. But I just hope that I will really find a full-time writing position soon as it will be better for my finances.
I also want to apply freelancing jobs however I don't have experience and I don't know where to start. If you will give me some recommendations I will accept it because I am very weak to try applications from freelance jobs.
