The futility of words.
Thousands of languages, millions of dialects, yet we choose to abuse their words.
Words, despite being the greatest means of communication, is also the most abused gift given to mankind. Words are used for unthinkable things that its true value is gradually becoming erases from the surface of the earth. The preciousness of words is such that once out, can never be retrieved, once your vocal cords work together to produce that sound, that's all cause they do not work in a reverse direction ; just like time itself, or more than time. You can do what you fail to do now later and still do it right, but you cannot say something now that you should have said later and still make sense.
Words have become futile in the sense that they have lost their power :lies, fake news, fake promises, false information, manipulative words are now the order of the day. We harness the power of words in a wrong way to suit our self interests, even if that means going against our very nature which is words. Yes we're all words, don't you know? We're the words of God created from these words. "Be" and we came into being. That's the power of words. It makes sense to say that our words hold power too since we were created in God's Image. When we misuse this power, we go against reality(what really happened), our nature and God Himself. When I say misuse of words, I am not only referring to lies or false words, I am also referring to other words that pierces the hearts of the people at whom they are directed like profanities , words of mockery, words of insults and the likes. Like lies, these words remain in the mind of those to whom it is directed, causing them hurt. No matter how indifferent you think you're when a person utters a profanity at you because of how "common" it has become , you retaliating with the same profanity or leaving the place immediately shows that you're hurt. As for lies, no one likes being lied to, that's the reason we become cautious after a few encounters with liars and manipulators to avoid hurting ourselves over and over again over the same thing.
It's only human to want to feel loved, it's human to want someone to trust. A lot of us claim we have "real friends" but deep down we see them as nothing other than acquaintances because of fear of being lied to or betrayed which is not our fault, it's just a way of trying to cushion ourselves from the true nature of humans, masked by their lies and deceits.
I have also come to realise that there are those who people sometimes prefer lies over truth, or half-truths or sugar-coated words as long as they cushion them from reality. They want to believe that these are the truths, making them want external affirmations. Don't give in to them, don't allow them make you abuse your God given power for then to feel good. It is okay to not tell them the truth in the meantime, but do not replace it with a lie, it will end up hurting you and hurting them in the long run. Lying is and can never be an option.
Actions speak louder than words you say?
I have written this after some retrospection of how words have damaged beautiful things, shattered innocent souls and made people rebellious. We tell ourselves that other people's words shouldn't affect us but they sometimes do you know, we can only stop ourselves from reacting to those words. Still, there are the words of those we will always react to, no matter how mature we think we've become.
Actions, are what follows our words. The words speak, while action only amplifies the sound. In reality, both of them are the same thing because even when you do good things to people while harbouring bad intentions (future words or actions), it's the same as coming off as bad in the first place. Words always lead, it's up to you to amplify or diminish already spoken words with actions that follow.
Silence.
That's my retreat now, I get tired of talking these days. I haven't always been much of a talker, and the increasing futility of words makes me go deeper into my retreat. For me, silence is the only thing that speaks louder than words, for in silence, all is unknown and known at the same time while in words, only what's spoken is known, which can sometimes become a lie.
